American Idol XV: Auditions Come to a Close

Another chapter has closed in the final book of the American Idol series. Or should I say the “farewell” book? During the Television Critic’s Association Press Tour last Friday, Seacrest, Lopez and Urban all corrected themselves after calling the show’s 15th season it’s “final” season. Whether that means the show will return down the road […]

American Idol XV: Auditions Continue

The second week of Idol auditions seemed to repeat the first, giving us plenty to think about after Thursday’s two-hour special, but leaving us a little high and dry after Wednesday’s one hour offering. Perhaps this arrangement was deliberate, leaving the audience wanting more for next week rather than ending on a bad note. Either […]

American Idol XV: Two-Night Premiere

The doors to the 15th and final season of American Idol opened Wednesday night with a nostalgic note, delivering a montage of the moments where each of the previous winners claimed their title and leaving us wondering who would be “the bookend to Kelly Clarkson” that would come from this season. Album Review: Michael Sarver’s “Begin Again”

Putting out new music, generally, is a risk. If an artist hopes to capture a bigger audience than their previous efforts, they’ll have to do something different to win over new fans but sometimes that change can turn their loyal fans off. Take, for example, Mumford & Son‘s dramatic new direction on their latest album, “Wilder […]

Country Singer Michael Sarver is Ready to ‘Begin Again’

Season 14 of American Idol finished with a bang, crowning Connecticut native Nick Fradiani as the show’s penultimate winner, drawing comparison to Season 8’s triumph of guy-next-door Kris Allen over the bombastic Adam Lambert—a scene that country singer Michael Sarver remembers well because he was there, fighting it out with the two of them for the […]

American Idol XIV – Top 6: Arena Anthems

On Wednesday night’s Idol show the theme wasn’t the only thing misleading as a grand total of two of the performances seemed to actually fit within its confines. But worse yet was the distinct lack of viable feedback from the judges, save a few comments from JLo and the heavy-handedness with which the Quentin “this whole thing is whack” debacle was handled throughout.
