Meg Quinn joined The Hudsucker in February of 2014 and is a senior writer. After going through high school thinking she “didn’t like to write,”Meg found her love for writing during her freshman year at college and the passion has only deepened since then. Upon graduating from Rutgers University with a BA in Communication in 2013, she began working in online marketing for the hospitality industry. She currently splits her time between NYC, where she works, and NJ, where she lives—but hopes that one day she’ll be able to live and work in the same state (that’s the dream).

Favorite fast food joint: Chipotle? Is that fast food?

Funniest thing that ever happened to you: My life in general
Within reason, what are your craziest goals and dreams? I’d love to become a licensed yoga teacher & open a studio. And write about it.
Most outrageous thing you’ve ever done: I can’t think of one. I tend to live inside the lines (working on it!)
If you had to sing one song at a karaoke bar, which one would you choose? I Try by Macy Gray
What movie title best describes your life? Deliver Us From Eva (just kidding, but isn’t that a great movie title?)
What is one of your most life-changing moments? Graduating from college and starting to work full time. A year later and I’m still not used to it.
Describe yourself in a single sentence: “This is the true story of seven strangers picked to live in a house, work together and have their lives taped to find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real.”
If you were a superhero, what would be your super power? I’d love to fly. Flying would help me out a lot right now.
If you were stuck on a deserted island, which one book, movie and person would you want to take along? The Bible, When Harry Met Sally, and Reese Witherspoon
If a genie granted you 3 wishes, what would they be?
- To give me the courage to be able to truly go after what I want without worrying if it’s the “responsible” thing to do;
- To be able to be creative without judgement of myself;
- To be able to eat lots of cake and yet still have a bangin’ bod.
Last Song Played on your CD player/iTunes/iPod, etc: “Hard To Stay Sober” by Miranda Lambert (her new CD is FANTASTIC)
What made you want to write for The Hudsucker? I love the range of topics that are covered here and had been wishing that I could find a place to talk about things (television and health, mostly) that really interest me. It’s really a perfect combination.
What is your favorite article on the site and why? I love the interview that Tatum Hawkins did with Summer Bellessa and Brooke White from The Girls With Glasses. Being a huge fan of those girls, I get excited when I see they get any press, but I especially thought that Tatum did a great job with the questions and really brought out why I think those women and their web-show is so unique and fun.
Who is your favorite author on the site and why? I loveeeee beauty products so I’m a big fan of Nicole Drum and her “Pretty Files” series. I also enjoy reading Andrew Rogers’ American Idol recaps because as much as that show drives me crazy, I can’t stop watching it.
What is one of your own favorite articles on the site and why? I really enjoyed looking into whether healthy drinks are really healthy or not.
Where do you see The Hudsucker in 5 years? I hope that although it’s readership will (hopefully!) be larger, it will still maintain the blog and personal-style of writing that I love so much about the site.
What do you think of your fellow peers here at The Hudsucker? I think we have a great group of passionate, kind, caring, funny writers here and I am very honored to be a part of it.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? This is a SCARY QUESTION because I don’t have an answer, and I really don’t like not having answers. I hopefully will be married, with a child or two, but as far as location, career, etc. I have no idea. At all.
What words of advice would you give writers? Don’t “pre-edit” your writing, as in edit things out in your head before you even get it on a piece of paper. I still struggle with this, even though that I know most of my writer’s block could be solved by just spilling out my thoughts even if they are messy, imperfect, and lacking cohesion. That’s what editing after is for.
Who do you look up to? Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, and Reese Witherspoon.
What is one of your favorite life lessons? If you want to do something, you have to go for it and you have to show up for it. Nobody is going go hand you anything once you are out of school. You’re in control of your own life.
