Evaluate Your Life Day

Sunday, October 19th is National Evaluate Your Life Day. Yes, It would seem that along with Moldy Cheese Day, Bald and Free Day, and Virus Appreciation Day (seems like Ebola has good timing). Evaluate Your Life Day is a great opportunity to stop and appreciate something a little off the beaten path. That’s what quirky holidays are all about.

Now, Moldy Cheese Day, Bald and Free Day, and Virus Appreciation Day are (hopefully) just for fun, but Evaluate Your Life Day has potential to have some real value. When is the last time you sat down and honestly took a look at your life, considered your goals, and where you want to be? When was the last time you took a moment to look at the good in your life and not just the stress of the day-to-day or looked at how the bad is keeping you from the good? With American Thanksgiving a month away pausing and spending some time evaluating your life right now might even make you more thankful just in time for that iconic dinner.

So how do you do it? How do you sit down and evaluate your life? There really isn’t some magic formula for it, but I’m a big fan of lists so my life evaluation is going to look a lot like a series of lists. What makes me happy right now? What is making me stressed? What would I like to be doing? What things would I like to change? How can I make changes? When is the last time I truly did something for me?

Ask yourself the hard questions and look at your answers. Your life may not change dramatically overnight, but when you have a better picture of who you are in that snapshot of time you can build plans. Consider Sunday a foundation that will carry you towards the New Year. It’s far better than a resolution anyway.
