CrossFit has garnered the attention of both men and women for years, but as the core strength and conditioning program grew in popularity over the years and across the country, many more are now turning to it for the added benefits to their daily routine. If you’ve been curious about CrossFit but are intimidated to try it out, firstly, don’t listen to the naysayers who think it’s too intense. Though it’s sold as a no-nonsense and tough workout regimen, when done correctly and attempted with a positive outlook, CrossFit can be fun, safe and super effective.
Here are six reasons why you should try the high-intensity training routine that incorporates weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, kettlebells, calisthenics, and strongman routines to give you a full body workout.
Fun social time
With many workouts in the regimen asking to collaborate with others, CrossFit breeds community and allows for a unique social experience. Outside of work and your usual circle of friends and family, it’s generally hard to form new friendships but with an atmosphere very team-like, you’ll meet compatible individuals to inspire and cheer you on—count us in!
Calorie blasters
In addition to increasing metabolic rate, with it’s high-intensity interval training, CrossFit is super effective at burning a high number of calories in a short span of time. Researchers at CrossFit discovered that the competitive fitness regimen helps exercisers improve their aerobic fitness, while burning an average of 12.3 calories per minute for females, and 20.5 calories per minute for males.
Cardio training
With most workouts for the day combining cardio with weight training, your heart rate will not only remain elevated throughout the entire workout, but accelerate with a good mix of push-ups, burpees, and air squats. Strengthening your heart and lungs with every workout is incredibly beneficial for long-lasting stamina, and helpful to increasing overall performance in daily activities.

Increase joint mobility
Once you mobilize the muscles in your body from the diverse mix of movements involved in every workout, you mobilize the joints. Moving your limbs in various directions brings lubrication and helps heal and regenerate muscles fast, in addition to strengthening and restoring poor posture.
Challenge yourself
CrossFit isn’t one bit a fad. It pushes the limits of fitness and strength, creating coordination, flexibility, speed, agility, balance, and accuracy with every workout involved. In every way possible, this type of training challenges you beyond your comfort zone, motivating and increasing power through every push. It isn’t a strictly physical workout, but mental as well since it involves a positive and steadfast mindset to reach the end.
Increase self-awareness
Between making friends and the challenges met with pushing yourself beyond the limits, CrossFit manages perfectly to increase confidence and independence in every individual taking part. Seeing what your body can do over the course of a few months will have you feeling incredibly gratified and boost your self-esteem. The beauty of an exercise that brings you to your knees is also the humility you feel with every workout. It isn’t easy, and at the start of it, you might feel you’re at the end of your rope but through discipline and perseverance, you will not only look better, but feel better too.
