Guys, this week’s episode might be the best episode of the show to date and is definitely the best episode of the show this season. This week we finally get to truly encounter Zoom so if you haven’t seen last night’s episode this is your call to step away from the recap. If spoilers don’t scare you, hold on to your hat because here we go.

The Nerd Gang learn this week that the plan that our breachers have been operating under is pretty straightforward. They discover that Dr. Light was supposed to defeat the Flash and then chuck his Flash emblem into the portal. That would signal Zoom that he could come to Earth-One so the team has a genius idea: they will have Linda Park pretend to be Dr. Light, get into a fake fight with Flash and then summon Zoom as planned. It takes a lot of practice and isn’t a great idea. Linda is not really up to pulling this off, but Barry pushes her anyway. Joe ends up grilling him about it in his very wise way. Joe suggests that Barry feels slighted that he wasn’t able to defeat Reverse Flash so now he’s taking it out on Zoom. Barry brushes it off and they do the fake fight. The fake Dr. Light defeats Flash and throws the Flash symbol into the portal. But no Zoom.

So Barry admits to Joe that Joe was partially right. Seems that what Earth-One Dr. Creepy said about Barry never being happy bugs Barry, but Joe tells Barry not to let him win by poisoning him like that. Joe reminds him to focus on what makes him happy, which is aparently Patty. I’m reminded that I don’t like Patty.

Good thing I don’t have a chance to dwell. Zoom’s here! He shows up at Picture News, snatches Linda, and then dangles her from the roof of STAR Labs. This is bad. It forces the Flash to save her and then Flash and Zoom get into it. The Flash tries to shoot lightning at Zoom, but Zoom is good. He catches it and throws it back at Barry. Dr. Wells shoots Zoom with a speed-dampening dart, but Zoom also catches that and stabs Barry with it. Did I mention that Zoom also just broke Barry’s back? Oh yes, he did.

Zoom is a jerk. He takes the severely injured Flash all over the city, parading him out to the folks at Picture News, the police, and then at STAR Labs. Zoom is taunting them all (especially Wells) before Cisco is able to get Zoom with one of those darts. It really only makes Zoom zoom away, but at least he’s not murdering the Flash now. That being said, Barry is really badly injured and as the episode closes out we find that Barry is healing…but when he wakes up he cannot feel his legs.

There are other elements of this episode. Cisco is able to use his special vibe skill to get information about Wells. Specifically he sees that his daughter, Jesse, is a prisoner to Zoom, but alive. We also see Flash reveal himself to Linda so now another person knows who Barry is. Wells has a flashback and we find out that the Arrow on Earth-Two is actually Robert Queen as it is Oliver who is dead. These things are all interesting, but the meat of this episode is really the fight with Zoom and the fragility of the Flash. After sort of fumbling along in this post-singularity world we have finally hit stride. And next week? Gorilla Grodd.  I can’t wait!

Now for the real question? Who is Zoom? Leave your best guess in the comments!

At one point, Wells refers to daughter as “Jesse Quick.” Ooooh boy.

My best guesses for Zoom’s identity are either the Earth-Two Barry or the Earth-Two Henry Allen. While Thrawne did manage to pull off the two places at once trick, I doubt they’d do that again. That being said, I do not trust Dr. McCreepypants-2. Even if he’s not evil, he seems far too sinister even for the secrets now revealed.
