Fall is the season for turning over a new leaf. The art of revamping aspects of your life for a fresh start is best seen in fall style, when we welcome the colder months with brand new outfits. From classic to unconventional, and soft to the touch fabrics to experimental twists on denim, these ten fashion trends for Fall/Winter 2016 are looks you must consider adding to your wardrobe.

Velvet
Far from being submerged underground, velvet has shimmered all over the style landscape for fall. From pants to handbags, this plush and luxe fabric is woven into clothing and accessories in a myriad of colors that expand beyond black and blue.
Pussy-Bow Necklines
Sophisticated and sweet, the pussy-bow gives a modest and memorable accent to blouses and dresses. Popularized in the 60s as well as during Thatcher’s political era in the 80s, the feminine, floppy bow-tie represents points in time when women were at the helm of the fashions of the day. It comes to no surprise to see this trend as the cat’s meow once again today.
Embellished Denim
Denim — the most universally wearable and classically cool textile — takes a few cues from the 70s with the return of the flare silhouette and experimental embellishments. Patchwork, applique and embroidery are a few of the creative additions popping up on jeans.

Shearling Coats
Statement fur coats were all the rage on the catwalks of the Fall 2016 collections, but if you’d rather opt for something more toned-down, shearling-trimmed coat may be the route for you. An aviator-inspired bomber jacket with a shearling-covered collar screams 80s mod.
Choker Necklaces
As we’re running through the decades of style’s past, here’s yet another resurfaced fashion trend. Chokers were, as Cher Horowitz from Clueless would say, “totally tubular” throughout the 90s and are now making a triumphant comeback. Made of materials ranging from velvet to leather to metal chains, the versatile neck accessories can shift to suit all styles, from bohemian to badass.
Brocade
Despite the chill in the air, brocade is in full bloom this autumn. The silky-smooth fabric with an overlaid raised floral print design evokes elegance and exoticness with a regal flair. Quite the easy way to look and feel like a royal highness!

Pantsuits
An investment piece if there ever was one, the pantsuit is power move of high impact. Not restricted to business matters, one can rock a power pantsuit anywhere one commands to be noticed, from the boardroom to the sidewalk. Play around with colors, patterns and fits to find the suit that best suits your personal purpose and style. #GirlBoss #ImWithHer
Pumpkin Spice
As timeless neutrals such as black, grey and brown begin to emerge out of hibernation, shades of Starbucks’ staple seasonal drink are splattered on to the color palette for fall. Closely embodied in Pantone’s Potter’s Clay, pumpkin spice is a muted orange-brown hue that is earthy, rich and anything but #basic.
Capelets
Shrug off the cold shoulder and stay warm with a cozy capelet draped around your shoulders. A cross between a jacket and a scarf, this outerwear option is the icing on top of layered clothing. Not only does the capelet achieve its mission of keeping you covered, it also looks super fly while doing its heroic duty.
Over-the-Knee Boots
A permanent mainstay of fall style, boots are made for walking through leaves, puddles and the inevitable snowpiles. With boots that fit over the knee, you’ll be fully covered while looking totally chic at the same time. Stay grounded with a flat sole or add some height with a stacked heel.

I have always loved seeing the knee high boots come out for fall. Anything that’s stylish, and serves a functional purpose is my favorite type of fashion trend. That said, I would love to see more people out with capelets to keep warm.
Functional style is always a winning amalgamation! Capelets are among my favourite trends for the fall.
I love the choker trend, gives such a 90’s vibe and I’m obsessed!
