Hello again my fellow Flash fans! With last week’s crossover event over last night was time for the mid-season finale. What that means is it’s time to get back to dealing with Savitar. There are some major spoilers in this recap, just so you know.

India. Julian’s there, writing in journal when a woman tells him to come quick and they go off to some adventure movie cave that appears to be full of all kinds of interesting artifacts. Julian picks up one specific artifact, gets excited about it, and breaks it open. Cut to STAR Labs and the team is working on their Savitar problem. Cisco finds a paper online that talks about an ancient relic, specifically the stone that Alchemy uses, that essentially creates metahumans. In a very Harry Potter nod they call it The Philosopher’s Stone and Barry goes off to ask Julian about it. Julian claims to have never run across it, but warns Barry that Savitar is the first speedster metahuman and to not waste his time on Savitar.

Joe is super cute and invites his lady friend over for Christmas Eve. They decide to have an eggnog contest, a battle of the grandma recipes. So cute, as are all of the holiday decorations in this episode. What’s not cute? The Trickester. He’s robbing a bank, but before you worry too much, Jay Garrick has this. It’s Earth-3! It has a slightly mid-century modern look to it, which is cool. Not cool? The Trickster has a bomb and is about to blow Jay up. Fortunately Barry shows up and saves Jay. Needing some help, Barry asks Jay about Savitar and Jay tells im what yes, Savitar was the first man granted speed. But Jay also tells Barry that Savitar always picks someone before showing up himself. That person? Alchemy. Jay also decides to help Barry deal with Savitar.

On Earth, Wells the 3rd is training Wally. Back at the lab, Jay and Barry chat about Christmas, but Barry’s mind is on Savitar with Jay giving him some solid advice about spending time with his family instead. Meanwhile elsewhere in the lab, Cisco is seeing Dante. Who is dead. Grief is difficult, but this sounds off. Later, at the West house, Barry hangs out with Iris and they talk about presents for a bit before Iris drops that Julian’s team in India were all killed. Barry then realizes that Julian may have been lying to them about The Philosopher’s Stone. Sure enough, cut to Alchemy holding the stone up and summoning Savitar. The two Flashes show up. Jay takes on Savitar leaving Barry to go for the stone. Barry puts the stone in its box just in the nick of time, causing Savitar to disappear before he can kill Jay. Barry also unmasks Alchemy and, sure enough, it’s Julian.

Back at the lab, though, Julian denies that he’s Alchemy. And it’s not like he’s making that up either. He truly is confused. Jay is recovering from the fight with Savitar and Cisco’s got nothing on the box. Literally nothing. It’s like it’s not real. What is real is that Wally is outed for training and Joe’s not happy about it. But back to Savitar and Alchemy. Barry has a hunch that Julian might be telling the truth so he asks Julian if he has been experiencing blackouts. Julian says no, but also says that he doesn’t trust the Flash which prompts Barry to unmask. Then, and only then, does Julian reveal that he has been having blackouts and that they started with the stone. It seems that Julian’s dead sister told him about the stone and that it would bring them back together. So Julian went to India, found it and started blacking out. The kicker? When he blacks out, he hears the voice of Savitar.

Cue Cisco. He sees Dante again and Dante starts talking, telling Cisco that opening the box will bring them together again. So what does Cisco do? He opens the box and out comes Savitar. Caitlin shows up and tries to talk Cisco down because if he doesn’t close the box, Savitar is going to murder both Wally and Barry. After a few tense moments, Cisco closes it just in time. Bye, Savitar. So all the team knows for sure is that Julian isn’t lying, the box messes with people’s minds, and Cisco has an idea that will let them use Julian to speak directly to Savitar. They hook Julian up to the box and sure enough, they speak to Savitar. And it’s not good. It seems that at some point Barry trapped Savitar and Savitar knows Barry’s future. He says that one of the team will betray him, one will fall, and then Savitar will destroy Barry.

As all of what Savitar is talking about happens in the future, the Team has to figure out what to do with the box in the present. Jay suggests that they chuck it into the speedforce, which is a great idea since the speedforce is kind of it’s own thing so the two speedsters run together to access the speedforce, then Barry tosses the box in. Bye again, Savitar! Except, Barry ends up in the future. And watches at Savitar murders Iris. Back in the present, Barry tries to process this with Jay, who has to work really hard to convince Barry that future he saw may never happen before Jay returns home to Earth-3.

With the big bad dealt with for now, it’s time for Christmas. The eggnog off is a hit, Wally gets the gift of his own speedster suit, and Julian shows up to the party. He gives Barry the gift of his job back. In keeping with the cheerful spirit, Christmas carolers show up and Caitlin uses her cold powers to turn the rain to snow. And then? Barry and Iris take off to go open presents. What did Barry get her? Well, he got them their first apartment together. Happy Christmas indeed!

And that’s it until after the holidays! I hope you all have a great holiday season, no Savitar.
