Last night Team Flash continued to work out how to deal with the looming future problem, but we also got to see Cisco shine and learn more about HR. Spoilers beyond this point as we dig into our recap!

We start with arms dealers dealing and HR is narrating the scene before said arms dealers are defeated by Barry and HR? Hr has a vortex cannon thing, but we quickly discover that HR is writing a book. HR is somewhat interrupted by alarms that indicate a real crime is in progress. In this version, Barry and Wally speed off and save the day. Saving the day happens to involve saving cheerleaders so Kid Flash gets another moment in the limelight before heading back to STAR where Barry gives Wally credit where credit is due.

After everyone goes their own way Barry asks Cisco if he has found a way to change the future. This prompts Cisco and Caitlin to take Barry down to a diagram (made of LEGO!) of the scene where Savitar murders Iris. Julian comes in and is a killjoy when he explains that there is no way Barry will manage to be fast enough to save Iris by the time the impending date arrives. Caitlin scolds Julian for being so blunt.

Up next? Jitters. Gypsy has let herself in and touches tip money and other items to vibe herself information about HR. The police show up to stop her, but she defeats them with vibe powers and vanishes. The next day, Barry and Joe are checking out the scene and Barry is aware this isn’t a meta they’ve seen before.

Back at STAR Gypsy hacks into the lab’s security while the team is trying to figure out what happened at Jitters. HR explains to the team that Gypsy is a collector from his Earth. Gypsy then transports herself into the lab basement which prompts Cisco to use his powers to try to keep Gypsy away, but it doesn’t work so well. Gypsy is able to fully stop Wally and even literally shoots Cisco down when he jokes they should get coffee. She then informs the group that HR is a fugitive and leaves.

So why is HR a fugitive? Turns out that on Earth-19 inter-dimensional travel has been outlawed and the punishment for breaking the law is death. Gypsy has come to get HR and take him back to be executed. Later, Barry goes to see Iris who is clearly not herself. She is interested in leads about the arms dealers and ultimately asks Wally to help her.

HR seems resigned to his fate and packs his bag. Cisco joins him and HR explains that he came to this Earth because he felt like he was a fraud at home. Barry says they can’t let him die which leads HR to explain that the only way to escape being taken back and killed is to win trial by combat. Gypsy shows up to collect HR, but Cisco shocks the group and challenges Gypsy. He has 24 hours to prepare and after Gypsy leaves, Cisco realizes he’s in over his head. Turns out Gypsy never loses. Cisco is in deep.

Iris and Wally go to the police station and manage to get the file about the arms dealer off Joe’s desk. Or rather, Wally uses speed to do it while Iris fakes Joe out by leading him to think she’s pregnant while Wally does the work. Wally is successful and Iris covers by saying she was asking about cats and dogs.

Cisco tries to train up to beat Gypsy but it looks bad. This prompts HR and Barry to try to get one over on Gypsy. They go find her at the waterfront, but their plan to capture her fails. Gypsy takes HR with her as insurance for the fight. This upsets Cisco, but Julian is able to figure out Gypsy’s weakness. It turns out for just a split second when she exits her breach her feet are not on the ground. She could be knocked off balance in that moment.

Wally and Iris go to the arms dealers’ warehouse, but Iris is busted by one of the dealers. He says he is going to kill her but Iris calls him out on it, going so far as to push the gun to her own chest. Wally zooms in and stops the gunman before he can hurt her. Back at STAR, Joe is very upset at their actions. Barry pulls Iris aside and finds out that Iris isn’t afraid to die. Iris is actually afraid to not leave her mark on life before she dies. Barry tries to reassure her, but Cisco comes in. Gypsy is ready to fight.

Fight time! Cisco and Gypsy begin to fight and banter with each other. Cisco holds his own, then Gypsy vibes them to Earth-2, then to Supergirl’s Earth, then to a lava Earth. Back to Earth-1, Gypsy moves to exit her portal which lets Cisco utilize the weakness Julian pointed out. Cisco knocks Gypsy down and wins. Cisco is proud and Gypsy is a bit impressed. They smile. Back at STAR, Gypsy says she will tell people that she killed HR which means HR can never go back to Earth-19. Before she leaves, Gypsy takes a ton of coffee and fakes out Cisco by almost kissing him before disappearing.

And now we tie up the episode. In their apartment Barry reads Iris’ article before reassuring her that he is going to stop Savitar. HR and Cisco talk about why Cisco saved him and share a deep moment as Cisco talks about appreciating STAR Labs. And then the episode ends with Barry watching Wally train. Wally is fast and that’s why Barry tells him that Wally is going to be the one to save Iris.

Until next week!
