The Flash is DC’s television adaptation of the comic book of the same name. It airs Tuesday nights at 8/7 Central on The CW. Our writer, Nicole Drum recaps the series each week updating you on the latest episode here in The FlashBack.
Last night was the conclusion of the Gorilla Grodd themed arc on The Flash. Last week the team thought they had beaten Grodd, but last night they found out they were wrong. Spoilers from here out!
The episode opens up with Barry making pancakes for Iris before we go to STAR Labs where Harry and HR are decorating for Valentine’s Day, which is Friend’s Day on HR’s home Earth. The pair note similarities and differences, specifically regarding how they brush their teeth. HR is excited and hands out his Valentines while Jesse and Wally decide to tell Harry about her plan to move to Earth-1. When they tell Harry he actually takes it a little too well. He asks Jesse if Wally makes her happy and since he does, Harry says he is okay with things. Jesse and Wally then make plans to move in together.
Elsewhere at STAR Cisco and Caitlin are talking when Gypsy shows up and starts blasting people. Harry has to shoot her with the special gun they have to get her to stop and the team put her in the pipeline. Once she comes to, the team figures out that Gypsy has been mind controlled by Grodd into vibing his army to Earth-1. Cut to Grodd and his army watching Central City from a nearby cliff.
Now that the gang knows Grodd’s in town they also find out that their satellites have been scrambled. This leads to Cisco needing to vibe to find out Grodd’s location as well as Cisco suggesting that Gypsy be let out of the cell so she can help with Grodd. Speaking with Gypsy reveals that she saw things when Grodd had her under his control and those things were the total destruction of the city. However, Cisco can’t get Gypsy to help the team so he lets her leave. Wally helps Harry work on Cisco’s vibe gear and while they work, Harry tells Wally that he is terminally ill. He also says to not tell Jesse.
Cisco vibes and is able to report that the attack happens at a specific intersection. The team goes there, but no Grodd. Instead, Joe turns a gun on himself. Guess who Grodd is controlling now? Barry is able to save Joe, but the team realizes that the intersection was a distraction technique. The gorilla army is elsewhere. At STAR Caitlin checks Joe out and he says that he saw flashes while being controlled by Grodd. Harry then says that they can look into another person’s memories and Joe agrees to let them so they can find out what he was seeing. While all this is going on, Barry is upset and frustrated by everything and says he is considering killing Grodd.
Wally, sad about Harry, tells Jesse that maybe she shouldn’t stay and confesses that Harry is dying. Jesse, in turn, goes to confront her father as they get Joe set up for the memory peeking procedure. She thinks it’s a ploy. At any rate, during the procedure Joe starts sketching a man. That turns out to be the man Grodd is controlling currently, an Army general with control over the nuclear weapons at nearby Fort Reynolds. Of course, the team doesn’t know that. They try running the sketch through a facial recognition database and finally figure out that the man is General McNally. A moment later, the alarms start going off because Grodd has started the missile launch sequence. A nuke just might be taking out Central City.
Barry heads off to stop the missile, but his only recourse is to try every combination of five numbers possible. Even with Barry’s speed it’s cutting it close when he finally enters the right numbers. Grodd isn’t happy. It’s time to invade. Meanwhile Cisco goes and appears to Gypsy on Earth-19. They need her help.
And now, gorilla fight. Barry, Wally and Jesse try to hold off the gorilla army but it is going badly. It looks like the speedsters are going to lose, but at the last moment Gypsy and Cisco show up. With Solovar. Solovar challenges Grodd to a fight and the two do epic battle with Solovar ultimately knocking Grodd out. Solovar is about to kill Grodd when Barry makes him a deal that Grodd should stay on Earth-1 instead. Thus ends Grodd’s attempt to destroy Central City. Solovar gets his army back and Argus takes Grodd away. With the fight done, the three speedsters, with help from Cisco and Gypsy, get the gorilla’s back to Earth-2. Gypsy kisses Cisco and tells him that he can’t handle her before departing. And then, with the gorilla invasion thwarted, Barry proposes to Iris with his mother’s ring. It’s a beautiful moment, but we don’t get an answer. Instead, we cut to Wally and Jesse curled up on a couch. Jesse decides she wants Big Belly Burger so Wally goes to get it for her. Instead of burgers, though, Wally ends up running into Savitar.
Next episode? Savitar returns! See you then!
