Welcome back! Last night’s episode was one of the most tense of the series. The team is just coming off it’s triumph against Grodd and are pitched headlong back into this season’s big bad, Savitar. Spoilers from last night’s episode beyond this point.

We open with the Speedster Trio racing. At STAR Labs we find out that it’s a training session designed to help Wally get fast enough to save Iris from death by Savitar. And Wally? He’s fast enough.

Race over, the gang gets together as Barry and Iris announce their engagement. Everyone is happy, but Joe wants to know why Barry didn’t ask for Iris’ hand. Barry doesn’t really get to answer though as a fire is in progress and it’s time to save the day. On the way, Wally gets confronted by Savitar and thrown into a car. However, Savitar really isn’t there. Barry can’t see him. Wally has to tell him that Savitar is the issue.

It turns out that Wally has been Savitar for a little while. This reveal upsets Barry so much that Wally is benched for a week. But now that Savitar is popping up in visions, the team wants to use the specialty vibe equipment to get Savitar to speak through Julian again. Julian’s not down with that, at least not until he gets a kiss from Caitlin. The gang hooks Julian up and Savitar starts talking. And it’s intense. Turns out that either Savitar or Iris can live. Not both. Barry, freaked out, unhooks the machine. Savitar also said that he almost has everything he needs to come back so the team has to figure out what’s going on. This leads Barry to a group of people worshiping a Savitar statue. These people also have the box, which Barry swipes. Turns out that the Philosopher’s Stone is gone. Savitar is also not trapped in the box. This is bad.

At STAR, Cisco tests the box and HR is training Wally, but instead of getting faster Wally is getting slower. He’s really freaked out about everything so he has Cisco vibe him to the scene of Iris’ death. It’s gut wrenching to watch, but Wally notices that Iris isn’t wearing a ring. This leads Wally to deduce that Barry only proposed to save Iris so once Wally gets done vibing? He yells at Barry to tell the truth, which he does. This upsets Iris and she walks out saying she needs to think.

Caitlin reveals that she kept part of the Philosopher’s Stone. They realize then that it’s possible Savitar can be back because of that. Barry gets Julian to channel Savitar one more time so they can try to find him. It works, sort of. Savitar is somewhere in Central City. And by somewhere I mean everywhere.

Over at the West house Jesse and Wally are talking. Wally admits that he feels odd because of how he got his powers. Jesse goes to hug him, but then Wally sees his dead mother. It’s another hallucination and quickly dead mom turns into Savitar. Wally speeds off saying he has to stop Savitar. While this is happening, over at Barry and Iris’ apartment, Iris talks about their future. Iris doesn’t want to just be someone Barry protects. This does not bode well.

At the lab everyone realizes that Barry trapped Savitar in the Speed Force and that Savitar can’t escape without the stone. Jesse breaks in and informs everyone that Wally ran off to stop Savitar. And when the team checks the stone? Yep, it’s gone. Cut to Wally opening up a portal to the Speed Force which goes really badly. Wally gets sucked into it, being fully consumed by it when Barry gets there. All that is left of Wally is a remnant of his suit. And then? Savitar climbs out of the portal. A confrontation and a fight ensues. It seems that Wally may be lost to the Speed Force forever, which sounds like a fate worse than death. But this fight? Barry is more evenly matched with Savitar now, even though the fight ends when Savitar stabs Barry in the chest and Barry phase cuts the sword off.

Back at STAR the crew removes the sword from Barry’s chest as everyone is stunned at the loss of Wally. Barry in particular is wrecked, a condition made worse when he realizes that Iris has taken off her ring.

Next week? How to save Wally. If they can. Oh man. See you then.
