Last night’s episode jumped right back into the story from where it left off last week, so we’re going to do the same with the recap. If you haven’t seen “Cause and Effect” then you might want to stop reading now since there will be a lot of spoilers.

Barry and Savitar — aka Future Barry — are talking and it’s tense. Savitar explains that he’s actually a time remnant that survived, but was rejected by Barry and Team Flash. That pain is what’s twisted him into evil. Barry and a suit-less Savitar briefly fight, but it turns out that the Savitar suit can work independently. This allows for Savitar to escape from Barry.

Back at STAR Labs, Barry tells the team about who Savitar is and the team immediately starts trying to figure out how to stop him. Barry, clearly rattled, talks with Iris about Savitar and how Barry knows that the pain that turned Savitar evil lives inside of him. Before things can get crazy heavy though, Cisco has an idea. The idea? Stop Barry from creating memories. Savitar works off of knowing everything from memory so without them, they could stop Savitar. They try a memory disrupting device on Barry and it works. It works too well and Barry literally remembers nothing.

Barry’s amnesia is bad timing. Cecile needs Barry to testify against a meta named Heat Monger. But Barry doesn’t even remember who he is. HR has a moment with Tracy Brand while she’s working on the Speed Force trap. Killer Frost approaches Savitar and we see that Savitar also has no idea who he is. Cisco’s plan has worked.

Iris takes Barry to Jitters and Barry is just adorable as she fills him in on his hobbies, his interests, and anything that might trigger his memories. Barry is just so happy and Iris is enjoying it. Then Barry goes to court and it’s almost okay. Julian gives Barry glasses that display text to him he can read and testify with. But Barry’s sweat shorts them out and Heat Monger goes free.

Back at STAR, the team is met by Killer Frost and Wally discovers he has no powers. Killer Frost says she can help Wally get his power back but they need to help her. Meanwhile, Iris takes Barry to their apartment and explains some of the pictures. They kiss which sets off Barry’s powers. They go back to STAR and join the others. Killer Frost explains that Wally is powerless because Barry has amnesia which means Savitar has amnesia. Since Savitar gave Wally powers, no memories mean no powers.

So Cisco, Julian, and Killer Frost get to work together in the lab. Cisco tells Julian a story about working with Ronnie back in the day to try to get through to Caitlin. Annoyed, Killer Frost turns her back on them, but still finishes Cisco’s story. Joe and Iris test Barry’s powers and Iris is conflicted. Barry is so happy. Why can’t he stay that way? Joe says that Barry’s experiences, good and bad, made him who he is and he can’t be denied that.

Then Heat Monger starts burning things down again. Memories or not, Barry has to help so he takes off to be a hero but needs help. Cisco shocks Barry’s brain to try to jump start his memories. It sort of works, but Iris has to get Barry to connect to his memories. She tells him about when she fell in love with him. It’s enough and Barry’s memories flood back. He is able to save the day, especially now that Wally has his powers back, which means Savitar has his memories.

Back at STAR, the team makes sure Barry’s memories are really back. Killer Frost goes to leave, but Barry, Julian, and Cisco stop her. Julian says he can fix her and admits to loving her. A cold Killer Frost tells them that she’s never loved any of them and leaves, but in the elevator her eyes flip back to Caitlin’s for just a moment.

The team then interrupts HR kissing Tracy, but that’s okay. Tracy has completed her Speed Force trap, but there’s a problem. They need a massive power source for it. And where is that power source? Oh, you know, hanging with King Shark.

Next week? The return of Captain Cold!
