Entertainment Roundup: What Happened in May

It’s almost halfway through the year, and we find ourselves at this month’s Entertainment Roundup. This month, unfortunately, brought more tears than smiles for fans and stars alike. We’re covering the month’s biggest stories, including a Hollywood split, and the aftermath of that tragic bombing in Manchester.

Nightmare in Manchester

The biggest news comes out of the U.K. this month, after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device outside of Manchester Arena, immediately following Ariana Grande’s concert during her Dangerous Woman tour. The heinous incident brought about 22 deaths to both concert-goers, and their parents, with dozens more injured. Grande, who is known for being close with her fans, tweeted after the event, writing, “Broken. From the bottom of my heart, I am so, so sorry. I don’t have words.” However, the “One Last Time” songstress didn’t leave it there; Grande rallied up a group of A-list artists to throw a benefit concert in the small English town, with proceeds going to the victims and the families of those affected in the May 22nd attack. The concert will include acts such as Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, Niall Horan, Usher, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Pharrell Williams, and Take That. The event will be broadcast on BBC, and a soon-to-be-named digital partner. Our thoughts and prayers are with those impacted by this horrific event.

Stiller Split

In other news this month, comedian Ben Stiller, and actress Christine Taylor, announced their decision to separate after 17 years of marriage. The couple, who shares two kids, released a statement earlier this month that said, “With tremendous love and respect for each other, and the 18 years we spent together as a couple, we have made the decision to separate. Our priority will continue to be raising our children as devoted parents and the closest of friends. We kindly ask that the media respect ur privacy at this time.” We wish the family nothing but the best moving forward.

13 More Reasons

Netflix addicts, rejoice! The hit show, 13 Reasons Why has officially been renewed for season 2, bring 13 new episodes for us to binge. According to the streaming giant, the show, “picks up in the aftermath of Hannah Baker’s (Katherine Langford) death and the start of the characters’ complicated journeys toward healing and recovery.” Brian Yorkey is staying on as the showrunner, with no official word on the cast’s return. However, Yorkey did hint at Langford’s return, saying, “She’s an integral part of whatever the next chapter of the story is, and she’s very much still at the center of it.” Regardless of the show’s controversy, we know one star who couldn’t be happier to be bringing the show back to the small screen. Selena Gomez, who executive produced the show, first Instagrammed the news, sending fans prematurely reaching for the tissues. We can’t wait to press play.

No More Bad Blood?

Finally, this month brought us new music from one Ms. Katy Perry. The song on everyone’s mind is a new track titled “Swish Swish” in which the songstress sings lines such as, “You’re calculated/I got your number/’Cause you’re a joker/And I’m a courtside killer queen/So keep calm, honey, I’ma stick around/Funny my name keeps coming out your mouth.” Despite the revenge-filled lyrics, the “Teenage Dream” singer stopped by James Corden’s Late Late Show for a little carpool karaoke, and opened up about the infamous feud. When Corden asked Perry if she was willing to “take the beef off the grill,” and put the past behind them, Perry responded by saying, “She started it, it’s time for her to finish it.” Looks like the ball (or ballad) is in your court, Taylor.

That’s all she wrote! Thanks for checking back in for this month’s Entertainment Roundup. We hope to bring you better and brighter news next month, but there’s only one way to find out!
