This month, we were taking our last summer vacations, the kids were heading back to school, but Hollywood was busy stirring up a storm of hot topics. If you were to guess Anna Faris and Chris Pratt would announce their divorce, you would be one of the few who saw it coming. For most of us, we were shocked to learn of the couple’s decision to call it quits just earlier this month. The pair took to social media to release statements saying, “Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward.”

The two have been married for eight years, and share a 4-year-old son, Jack Pratt. Faris took to her podcastAnna Ferris is Unqualified, speaking out for the first time since the announcement. The Mom actress said, “Hey, dear listeners: I just want to thank you all so much for all the love I’ve been receiving, and I truly love you.” We’re wishing the family the best moving forward.

She’s Back

For many of us, August will be the month that one of music’s Queens made her triumphant return. Taylor Swift came back full force, dropping a new single and video, announcing her upcoming album, and hinting at a new tour. But first, she started off her parade of “wins” this month when a jury awarded her a symbolic $1 following a case in which she claimed a Colorado DJ groped her during a meet-and-greet back in 2013. The DJ, David Mueller, initially filed charges, claiming the accusations from Swift were false and caused him to lose his job. He filed a lawsuit against the “Blank Space” singer seeking $3 million. Swift, in retaliation, filed sexual assault charges against Mueller. To prove she was only seeking justice, she asked for just $1 in winnings. The trial ended as quickly as it began, with a  jury unanimously throwing the DJ’s case out, and finding Mueller guilty of assault and battery.

But that $1 didn’t stop there. Swift also dropped a new single “Look What You Made Me Do” this month, and subsequent music video (Directed by Joseph Kahn) during the 2017 Video Music Awards. In the video, many hidden messages can be found, such as a scene where the singer is lying in a bathtub of jewels with a single dollar bill next to her. The video also features nods to her various feuds over the years, such as the pseudonym she wrote under for Calvin Harris’ tune “This Is What You Came For,” snakes serving up a whole lot of tea, and ended with her various personas from the past decade standing side-by-side, critiquing one another. The different Taylors were going back and forth using different cracks that have been made about her for the entirety of her career. What’s next for Swift? By the looks of her new website and partnership with Ticketmaster, the songstress could announce a tour any day now. For now, we’ll just wait for her upcoming sixth studio album, Reputation set to release on November 10th.

Who Won A Moonperson?

You read that right, this year MTV and the VMAs announced they would no longer call it the “Moonman,” opting for a more inclusive “Moonperson” that stars would be taking home. But that’s not the only thing that had people talking this year. The 2017 VMAs featured steallar performances from Kendrick Lamar, P!nk, and Shawn Mendes. Lamar took home his first ever moonperson for Video of The Year for his video “HUMBLE.” While Taylor Swift didn’t make a physical appearance at the show, she certainly had everyone talking about her when she released the music video for her latest single, “Look What You Made Me Do.” The video, directed by Jospeh Kahn (whom also directed her videos for “Blank Space” and “Bad Blood”),  caused quite a stir at the ceremony and the internet alike. But you can read more about that in the previous segment.

Katy Perry also made news as she embarked on her first time as host for the ceremony. While the writing received quite a lot of criticism, she also brought the house down with a performance of her latest single, “Swish Swish.” And of course, there was plenty of political talk. With appearances from the mother of the woman killed in the Charlottesville riots, to Paris Jackson’s refusal to accept, “Nazis and white supremacists,” and a mention of the Houston floods from host, Perry. It seems this year, people were disappointed with the show, with many taking to social media to criticize it. This includes Maroon 5’s Adam Levine. Levine called the show “utterly horrible” and called the producers out for cutting away during Julia Michaels’ performance of her song “Issues.” Better luck next year, MTV.

Mayweather vs. McGregor

Plenty of people were talking about the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor that took place in August. While Mayweather ultimately won, many celebs turned up to watch the epic brawl take place in person. Cameos included The Chainsmokers, Cardi B, Jamie Foxx, Nas, Nick Carter, Nick Cannon, Karlie Kloss, Vanessa Hudgens, Louis Tomlinson, and many more. The show also kicked off with a performance of the National Anthem by singer Demi Lovato, a longtime fan of boxing.

That about does it for us here this month, but make sure you check back in every month for another roundup of entertainment news! Also make sure you follow us on Twitter and “like” us on Facebook for more stories just like these!
