Girl Scout Cookie season isn’t a real season on the calendar, but it might as well be.
Every year Girl Scouts across the United States set off to sell the delicious sweet treats while cookie lovers open up their wallets to stock the pantry with their favorites. And this year, cookie fans get to welcome back the most popular flavor in the 100-year history of Girl Scout Cookies.
Brace yourself, cookie fiends. S’mores Girl Scout Cookies are coming back!
Released in two varieties last year, Girl Scout S’mores were released for the 2017 cookie selling season last year as a special flavor, joining classics such as Thin Mints, Caramel deLites (or Samoas) and Trefoils (also known as Shortbread.) The fudgy, marshmallow-y cookie — which came in choice of sandwich style or fudge-covered — was an instant hit, so much so that they’re back for 2018.
“We’re incredibly excited to announce that our popular Girl Scout S’mores will return next cookie season!” Girl Scouts USA CEO Sylvia Acevedo said in a statement. “While the tradition of making and enjoying s’mores in the outdoors was popularized by Girl Scouts as early as the 1920s, our s’mores cookies are also an important reminder of how necessary it is to support programs for girls to explore the outdoors.”
Cookie sales are the largest fundraiser for Girl Scouts each year with 100 percent of the net revenue from the sales staying in the local scouting community. And that makes buying — and eating — Girl Scout S’mores (or Thin Mints, or Caramel deLites, or Trefoils) even sweeter.
