Welcome back Flash fans! The Flash returned tonight and while it’s definitely not a spoiler to reveal that Barry comes back from the Speed Force almost anything beyond that will be so if you’re ready to find out what it’s like with “The Flash Reborn” keep on reading after the jump.

We open with Iris doing the voiceover, giving us a quick update as to how things have been going in the six months since Barry entered the Speed Force. It turns out that she’s been running Team Flash (or Team Kid Flash. Or Team Vibe) while Barry’s been gone.

Wally and Cisco and Joe go after a teleporting bad guy while Iris commands the team from STAR Labs, but Wally and Cisco get the job done with Joe locking the teleporter down for arrest with what appears to be some new meta-catching tech.

Back at the lab the team bickers a little about what the team should be called, but Iris keeps everyone on track because she is super serious now. She’s got a four hour training course set up for Wally and he can’t refuse even if he wants to. Of course, Cisco points out the obivous absence of Barry.

Dinner at the West house. Cecile is moving in! She also awkardly give Joe and Iris some privacy so Joe can tell Iris that they’re needing to replace Barry at work, especially since Julian moved back to London after Barry entered the Speed Force. Joe also tries to get Iris to take a break to grieve, but this upsets her and she leaves.

Back at her apartment she settles in when the building shakes and things explode. Iris takes off for STAR while the guys check it out and find a flying samurai. Yes, you read that right. Wally speaks Japanese to it, but then the samurai demands the real Flash. Wally tries to fight, but that doesn’t work so well and the samurai says they have one day to get the Flash or it’s curtains for Central City.

So how to get Barry back? At STAR, Iris is against it. Joe thinks Cisco is just crazy, but Cisco thinks he can do it, thinks he can stabilize the Speed Force and get Barry out. Why? He’s been working on this plan for six months. Keeping with theme Iris is upset and wants only to focus on the task of defeating the samurai. But Cisco isn’t convinced. He goes to a bar and finds Caitlin tending bar there. Caitlin says she’s back to normal and Cisco asks for her help. She agrees.

So Cisco sets up at the runway they tend to use for these sorts of things and Caitlin reveals she’s helping. They get to work quickly using a re-configured Speed Force cannon to track Barry in the Speed Force, then trick it into accepting something instead of him. They try. They open things up. No barry. Iris reveals she’s there and she looks upset. They failed.

Or did they? A cup of coffee floats, a wormhole opens up in the city and a speedster streaks out, eventually stopping in front of a truck far from Central City. It’s Barry! And he passes out.

The gang goes to see Barry when he’s brought to the police department, but it’s not the Barry we now. He’s got a beard. He’s talking nonsense. He’s writing weird symbols. Caitlin tranqs him and they take him back to the lab wher ethey decide that either his brain is moving too fast so he has a condition where he’s assigned the wrong meanings to words so we can’t understand or he’s been in the Speed Force too long and now has dementia.

So. They wake him up and yep, Barry’s still speaking nonsense. Iris tries to explain things to Barry but he keeps drawing and talking gibberish. She hugs him. He freaks out until Caitlin stops him with what looks like Captain Cold’s gun. But, it’s Samaurai time. Wally tires to trick him into thinking he’s the Flash, but the samurai isn’t falling for it. Meanwhile at the lab, Cisco thinks he can decipher what Barry has been scribbling, but the translation is weird: “This house is bitchin’.” No one knows what that means.

Barry is in the pipeline. Joe tells Iris she needs faith. Time runs out for the samurai. So everyone goes to confront the bad guy, but Iris does something insane. She tells the samurai to take her. So it does and flies off. Desperate, Joe tells Barry that Iris will die and that seems to get Barry’s attention. He speeds off. Barry is even faster than ever and he catches up with the samurai, who turns out to be a robot. Barry also takes his mask of and the Barry we know and love is back!

At STAR, Caitlin checks him out and he’s fine. Barry just has no idea about, well, anything other than saving Iris. Caitlin says she’s back on the team, which is nice, but then she goes to the bar to quit her job and that goes oddly. Killer Frost makes an appearance which means that Caitlin doesn’t quite have control. And back at Barry and Iris’ apartment they’re trying to enjoy time together when trouble calls and Barry is off again, just like normal.

But then, in the last scene we see the messed up robot samurai…and a guy hooked up to some serious comic book villain gear who says he is “thinking” about what to do next.

Next week? Suit shenanigans!
