Monthly ‘Idol’ Roundup: July 2018

With the Fourth of July this month, what could be more American than the singing show that brought us names like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood? They, along with the other star-studded list of American Idol alum, have been busy making new music, touring, and in their personal lives, so let’s find out more about what happened to them this month…

New Music

The most recent crop of contestants from Idol‘s last season have been busy on the Idol tour with Season 8 winner Kris Allen joining them. Jurnee, who came in seventh place, has unfortunately had to take some vocal rest for the next little while, but you can see Maddie, Caleb, Gabby, Cade, Michael and Catie out on the road this summer. Speaking of which, winner Maddie Poppe released an acoustic version of her winner’s single “Going Going Gone” and has also been continuing her web series talking about her journey since winning the show. Third place Gabby Barrett also released a song this past month called “Missin’ Love.”

This past month, season 5 winner Chris Daughtry released a new album with his band, Daughtry, entitled Cage to RattleThe band describes it as their most “mature” work to date and released a music video for “Deep End,” the emotional ballad that serves as the lead single.

Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery also released a music video this month for his single “This is It.” The video was filmed during the singer’s wedding to his wife, Gabi, which made it appropriate for it to debut on the wedding planning website, The Knot. McCreery and his family will also be on ABC’s Family Feud Sunday, Aug. 5 so check that out!

Season 14’s Daniel Seavey has grown up since he was on the show. The singer is now a member of the hit band Why Don’t We, who released a music video for their single “Talk” this past month.

Other News

Also from Season 14, Clark Beckham announced his first set of tour dates following the release of his debut EP on Quincy Jones’ label, entitled Year One. Season 13 winner Caleb Johnson is also out on tour with musical legend Meat Loaf. During the tour, Meat Loaf will tell stories about writing his songs while Caleb performs them. Sounds exciting!

Some congratulations are in order for a few Idol alum. Both Season 5’s Katharine McPhee and Season 10’s Lauren Alaina got engaged this past month. McPhee to iconic music producer and long-time boyfriend David Foster and Alaina to her beau Alex Hopkins.

McPhee, along with Season 7 winner David Cook, are also still on broadway this summer. Both McPhee and Cook will continue on until the beginning of September, so check them out if you get the chance. After that, Cook will head out on his own cross-country acoustic tour to promote his new EP, Chromance.
