Macy Krew learned how to sing before she could talk. It’s this early aptitude that clued her into her life’s calling as a musician. Over the years, Krew has continued to foster her passion for performing, singing on stages since the age of 13, performing originals and covers for her YouTube fanbase, and chasing her goal of becoming a country singer with her own music on the radio.
Tomorrow, the now 21-year old Krew debuts her first single, “Wherever You Are.” Before the big release on Aug. 17, we chatted with the up-and-coming country artist about her new song, her inspirations, and her hopes and dreams for her music career.
Music helped Krew navigate through the complexities of life, as she says, “no matter what was going on in my life, I used music and singing to get through it.” Through sharing her music, she hopes to spread her love for music to others and inspire them to follow their dreams too.
“Knowing how much music and singing made me who I am today made me want to create that same opportunity for others,” she adds.
A seasoned veteran of the stage, Krew considers performing live for an audience to be one of her favorite experiences, revealing that “the amount of happiness and confidence” she gains on a stage is “indescribable.” The joyful and confident vibe she delivers in concert is precisely what draws her towards the country-pop genre of music she identifies with too.
“I love the country twang, but also love the sass and belting powerhouses of pop country. Being able to mix my love for country, southern sass, and sparkles directed me right to country pop.”
As a female country artist herself, Krew is greatly inspired by the women of today’s country music scene, those “strong singers and songwriters that have worked for what they have today.” Among her list of female role models are Carly Pearce, Kelsea Ballerini, Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood, and Kelly Clarkson. If given the opportunity, she would love to collaborate with those women, along with male country artists Thomas Rhett, Kane Brown, Luke Bryan, and Dan + Shay.
Krew is committed to putting the time and effort into launching her career on her own terms. After trying out the reality singing competition circuit, she found it to be an eye-opening experience. Eventually, Krew decided to forge her own path.
“I took matters into my own hands, started writing more music, got a band together. It’s so much more rewarding when you work hard for something yourself,” she said.
Her debut single “Wherever You Are,” is an energetic, catchy, and heartfelt track written by the songwriter herself and one she is incredibly proud of.
“This song is all about finding your significant other or best friend and knowing that no matter where you are with them, it will be an amazing time,” she said. “It’s about having that simple love or friendship that everything comes easy to you with it.”
As for what’s next in Krew’s budding music career, she is anticipating a move to Nashville in Fall 2019, where she intends to focus on honing in her musical craft in the music city and making friends and connections in the music world. Until then, she’s continuing the hustle of the independent singer-songwriter by writing more music for the EP she hopes to record in the next few months, and of course, performing shows anywhere she can.
No matter what happens next, Krew vows never to take her fans and listeners for granted, as she credits them as the reason for what she has achieved so far and the motivation for continuing along this path.
“I love being able to feed off the energy of the crowd, singing things together and getting them involved, and meeting everyone after the shows. Without fans or an audience, I wouldn’t be able to do what I love,” she said.
The support and the messages Krew has received means the world to her, sharing that “it’s all beyond special.”
“I can’t thank everyone enough who has stood by my side and supported my music.”
