Last week we saw Kara was not herself thanks to red Kryptonite, and next week we get a great crossover featuring The Flash and Supergirl. That could make for an off week for the show, but last night’s episode didn’t disappoint.

Last night’s episode opens with Cat being on The Talk (nice tie-in CBS). Cat looks kind of bored and annoyed as they talk to her about Supergirl and how fabulous she is.

We open up thirteen years ago in the Phantom Zone. Kara in her off-course space pod is getting a close look at Fort Rozz. Then the buzzer sounds. Kara’s in bed and annoyed that it’s morning and there is a knock at the door.

The episode picks up shortly after the death of Astra. Kara’s grieving for her aunt and she’s having a hard time with it. Her whole personality just seems off, which is either really good acting by Melissa Benoist or thin plot by the writers. I can’t tell which.

Last night’s episode was a riff off of the classic Superman story “For the Man Who Has Everything.” It was an ambitious undertaking and ultimately felt as organic to Supergirl as true to the classic Alan Moore material. Spoilers beyond this point.
