Jaclyn Hill might just be one of the most popular YouTube beauty experts out there. With over three million subscribers to her channel, almost anything she endorses becomes an instant classic. Moreover, when she collaborates with cosmetic companies to create her own perfect products, you can expect it to break the internet. When Hill collaborated with Becca Cosmetics in 2015 to create the highlighter color Champagne Pop, the limited edition shade created such a frenzy that not only was it sold out for a period of time, but it returned as a permanent addition to the Becca line.
Hill has teamed up with Becca Cosmetics yet again to expand the Champagne Pop family. On May 26th, the Champagne Collection launched as a Sephora exclusive. The line included the original Champagne Pop Shimmering Skin Perfector, but added two new formulas of the shade—a face palette that brought another highlight shade and three blushes to the party, and a five pan eyeshadow palette incorporating echoes of the Champagne Pop hue. I am not a highlighter person as I am too fair skinned for most highlight shades to truly work on me, but I am an eyeshadow fiend so when I read about the collaboration I knew I’d have to get my hands on the eyeshadow palette.
The palette contains five warmer neutral shades, two of them with shimmer and three that are matte. All five shadows are well pigmented and highly blendable, qualities which make them worth the money for those with more advanced makeup skills and easy to use for the more casual wearer. The lightest shade in the palette, Chardonnay, is incredibly similar to MAC’s Nylon in both color and wear making it incredibly versatile as both an eyeshadow, but also as a gentle cheek highlight for very fair skin tones. The darkest shade, Bordeaux, is a beautiful satin matte that can blend out to create a wearable, daytime smokey eye but has enough color punch that it can be applied wet as a beautiful, semi-plummy eyeliner that won’t make the eyes look red like some plums can.
However, the standout shade in the palette is the color Hill’s input created, Champagne Toast. Rich, creamy, and coppery, the color works beautifully when blended with other shades in the palette. But if you use a synthetic brush and pack the color on (instead of blending) the shade goes from shimmer to metallic. Worn alone as an all over shade, it gives they eye a fresh brightness while still looking polished and put together. Worn as a strong metallic it enhances the color of the wearer’s eye and is the right amount of wow without being over the top. I have never gotten as many compliments on my natural eye color as the days I’ve worn Champagne Toast. And if you happen to have a deeper skin tone or want to dress up your bronzer a bit, a little bit of Champagne Toast also blends beautifully as an illuminator on your cheek. But trust me—it really sings on the eye.
At $40 USD, the versatile and high-quality palette is a great buy. Currently sold out at Sephora, Hill’s fans snapped up all of the items in the collection the day it launched. However, Becca will be restocking the entire collection, eyeshadows included, in time for the official in-store launch on June 16th. It is a palette definitely worth the wait.
