Entertainment Roundup: What Happened in September

It’s official: Fall is in full swing! Our favorite television shows returned to our screens this month, and have given us plenty to enjoy. But September also delivered some jaw-dropping headlines from the world of entertainment. A moving awards show, an A-list divorce, and a kick-ass supermodel all make up some of the headlines we covered in this month’s Roundup! Let’s take a look.

Oh, Yes She Hadid

If there’s one thing fashion fans have learned this month, it’s “Don’t mess with Gigi.” Supermodel, Snapchat queen, and certifiable badass Gigi Hadid, made her way to Milan this month for Milan Fashion Week. After walking in the Max Mara show, Gigi and sister (and fellow model) Bella Hadid made their way through the crowd of fans waiting outside. While stopping to pose for pictures, Gigi was grabbed and lifted off the ground by Vitalii Sediuk, a man banned from the United States due to his inappropriate and often aggressive behavior at red carpet events (he most recently got tackled by Kim Kardashian West’s body-guard for trying to kiss the reality star’s backside in Paris). Gigi, in a moment of justifiable panic, fought off her attacker as Bella attempted to help pull her from his grasp. After Sediuk released the runway star, she momentarily chased after him, cursing him and calling him out on his behavior before walking back to her car. After the incident, some news outlets reported the model as “lashing out angrily” as the stranger attempted to immobilize her. Gigi quickly fought back on Twitter and was also featured in Lena Dunham’s Lenny Letter writing, “I felt I was in danger, and I had every right to react the way I did.” Dunham, Anna Kendrick, and many other stars have since spoken out in support of the social media star’s reaction. And to that, we say job well done, Gigi.

Welcome to the Emmys

September marked the return of television’s biggest night with the 2016 Emmy Awards. The event, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, brought out everyone in television from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to the cast of The People Vs. OJ. The show was filled with hilarious moments from Kimmel as he lobbed jokes at Trump, his fellow nominees, and even himself. Some of the most notable moments of the night saw the kids from Netflix’s summer hit Stranger Things handing out peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the audience, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ emotional acceptance speech, and a tearful Kate McKinnon winning her very first Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Other winners from the night included Azis Ansari, Sarah Paulsen, Sterling K. Brown, and Courtney B. Vance. The Emmy for Best Drama Series went to none other than HBO hit series, Game of Thrones. Congrats to all the winners!

For many in the world, September marked the end of love after it was announced that one of Hollywood’s biggest couples had split. After 12 years together, only two of which they were married, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt called it quits with Jolie filing for divorce from Pitt. Citing “irreconcilable differences,” many were beginning to speculate Pitt was battling substance abuse problems. Much more serious claims came after rumors of Pitt’s alleged aggression towards the couple’s six kids surfaced, sparking a reported investigation into the family’s relationship. Not soon after news broke of the filing, many on social media managed to drudge up a should-be-long-settled “feud” between Jolie-Pitt and Friends alum, Jennifer Aniston. Many were tweeting gifs and memes of Aniston smiling and laughing, indicating she was overjoyed with the news. In fact, the claims caused so much commotion that Aniston’s husband Justin Theroux, and best friend Courtney Cox, both commented on the divorce, saying it’s “terrible news,” and reassuring the public, “It’s not about [Aniston].” While the news continues to unfold for the former power couple, we wish nothing but the best for the entire family.

Brand New Styles

On to much lighter news, earlier this month former One Direction band member Harry Styles added three blank images to his Instagram with no captions to define their meaning. Sensing there was some big news on the way, fans were floored when Styles added not one, not two, but three brand new covers for the 23rd edition of Another Man magazine. Styles is featured on each cover in a different attire with very different hairstyles. Each cover takes a shot at a decade Styles himself admires, from the 60s and 70s, to the 1980s. The magazine, which officially released yesterday, featured two interviews with the singer, one by Sir Paul McCartney, the other by comedian Chelsea Handler. Handler dove into more frequently asked questions, such as whether or not the band would get back together, or if he could see himself settling down and starting a family. While he remains uncertain about the future of the band (but he’s definitely still open to a reunion!), he says he looks forward to the day that he gets married and becomes a dad. For now, he’s focused on his new solo career with a brand new Christopher Nolan film, Dunkirk, debuting next summer, and recording his first solo record. Until the day we see him on the silver screen or hear his first single, we’ll just keep flipping through the pages of the magazine. Meanwhile, Directioners everywhere can enjoy the brand new single released by Niall Horan titled “This Town” released yesterday, marking the beginning of a beautiful solo career for the Irish singer.

She Will Be Loved

We top off this month’s Roundup with some particularly exciting news from Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine and Victoria’s Secret model Behati Prinsloo. The couple welcomed their first child to the world, a girl named Dusty Rose Levine, on September 21. The couple have already shared the first image of their baby girl on Prinsloo’s Instagram with the caption “Words can’t describe” written underneath the image of Dusty Rose lying on The Voice coach’s chest. Now, we wait for Olivia Wilde to bring her and hubby Jason Sudekis’ brand new baby girl to the world. We see a potential friendship in the works. Congrats to the happy couple!
