This week is a special week in hero land! It’s the four part crossover event week! Last night’s Supergirl got us started off, but the episode was much more than a quarter of an epic pie. Last night was a solid, stand alone episode and this recap will contain spoilers.
It’s Thanksgiving in National City! Kara and company are celebrating at her house as has become tradition. Kara is using her heat vision to either cook or warm the turkey while James, Winn and Alex all fuss with one another over the telling of James’ secret double life as Guardian. Mon-El is also part of the group this year, showing up with some definite confusions about what stuffing his before warming up to Mama Danvers. Once the meal is ready Kara leads the group with the tradition of going around the table to share what they are grateful for. James starts with appreciation for Kara (as a way to come out as Guardian) but Alex shuts him down. Mon-El then talks about being grateful for Kara, too, before ALex awkwardly tries to actually come out as gay to everyone. However, she and the rest of the party is interrupted by a portal briefly opening up over the table.
The next day the party and portal is behind them. At the DEO J’onn tells them that they need to sort out what Cadmus is planning to do with Kara’s blood. Kara has the idea to speak with Lena and use her skills as a journalist, as well as some sneaking skills, to find out what Lena knows about her mother. Of course, Alex and Winn doubt those sneaking skills and decide to put some surveillance on Lena’s systems as a backup. Turns out that Alex and Winn were right to doubt Kara’s sneaky skills. Lena sees right through Kara and after the intrepid reporter leaves, Lena calls mommy dearest. She says they need to talk.
At New Noonan’s a hooded figure plants some sort of device underneath the bar while Mon-El has a drink and gets hit on. As the hooded figure leaves, Mon-El mistakes him for J’onn and follows. Turns out it’s Cyborg Henshaw and they fight in an alley. While they are fighting, the device goes off and the aliens fall to the ground dead. Mon-El, beaten up by Cyborg Henshaw, goes back into the bar to see the fallen and exposes himself to whatever was in the device. At the DEO, Mon-El ends up in isolation to prevent him from getting the others sick and the gang decides to bring in Mama Danvers for help figuring out what the heck this toxin is and how Cadmus did it. Speaking of mother’s, Lillian comes to Lena’s office. Lena asks her mother what she’s up do, but Lillian plays dumb.
Back at the DEO, Kara plays Monopoly with Mon-El even though he is in isolation. While they are playing she asks him about his feelings for her, but Mon-El acts cool about it before collapsing. Mama Danvers is able to stabilize Mon-El and has some information. The virus that is killing aliens is from Krypton. It’s then that Kara realizes that Cadmus could have used her blood to break into the Fortress so she goes to check on things. When Kara arrives, one of the robots attacks her and claims that she’s the intruder. Kara zaps the robot and then gets onto the Fortress computer. When Kara looks up Project Medusa she finds out, much to her horror, that it was a weaponized virus that would kill anyone who wasn’t Kryptonian. Oh yeah, and she also finds out that it was her father who made the virus.
While Kara is again being crushed about the details of what her parents did in the name of good, Alex has a very special moment with her mother. Mama Danvers had already figured out whatever Alex needed to say includes Maggie because Alex talked about her so much. In fact, Mama Danvers mostly just admits that she has figured out that Alex is gay and loves her just the same. In the same vein of opening up about things, while Kara tells J’onn how upset she is about her father’s involvement with Project Medusa our favorite Martian also confesses that he’s turning into a White Martian. J’onn tells Kara that they can’t tell anyone until after they’ve found a cure for the virus to save Mon-El and stopped Cadmus.
As they work on figuring out how to stop the virus, Alex and her mother figure out that Cadmus wants to use the virus large scale and ot do that Cadmus will need an isotope from L Corp to do so. Sure enough, Cyborg Henshaw rolls up on L Corp to take said isotope, but Supergirl is there to stop him. They fight, the fight at one point nearly killing Lena (Supergirl stops that) and injuring Maggie (she’ll be okay) but Supergirl manages to prevent the theft of the isotope. Supergirl goes and speaks with Lena about Lillian, but the conversation goes poorly. Lena accuses Supergirl of being just as against the Luthor family as her cousin. Supergirl insists that Lena is different from her family, but Lena kicks her out anyway.
Now things really start rolling. Mon-El wakes up, but is very sick and admits to Kara that everyone thinks he’s dying. He also tells her she’s beautiful and kisses her before passing out. Lena confronts Lillian about Cadmus, but then surprises her evil mother by handing over the isotope. Winn tracks the isotope and realizes that Cadmus now has it and they are taking it to the port to release. Supergirl heads out to stop it, but despite the risk of death J’onn comes along as he wants to die as himself. They get to the port right after Lena’s fired the rocket launcher carrying Medusa. Supergirl goes after it as J’onn fights Cyborg Henshaw. Unfortunately, Supergirl can’t stop the missile. It explodes and the virus spreads over National City. However, no one dies. Lillian realizes that Lena has betrayed and set her up. In fact, Lena called the police so now Lillian’s going to jail.
Then we cut to some odd aliens in space who are hunting for Mon-El and will destroy anyone or any planet in their way.
Back on Earth, Mama Danvers is able to use Medusa to cure Mon-El and reverse J’onn turning into a White Martian. Kara tries to talk to Mon-El about the kiss thing, but Mon-El plays dumb. Later, Maggie shows up at Alex’s place and has had a change of heart since nearly dying. The ladies kiss and it’s awesome. And at Kara’s apartment? Barry and Cisco pop up thanks to a portal just as Kara comes home. Barry asks Kara for help with a problem and immediately Kara is down.
The adventure continues in tonight’s episode of The Flash so be sure to come back here on Wednesday for our recap of part two of the four part event!
