Last night’s Flash followed the recent trend of focusing on Wally’s growth as Kid Flash. It’s been an interesting perspective, watching Wally come into a hero as Barry has settled into his own heroic role. As always there are spoilers beyond this point from last night’s episode.
We start with a race. Barry is training Wally to be fast enough for when Savitar inevitably shows up to kill Iris. Today that means an epic race to see who is fast enough and put Wally through his paces. At STAR, the gang is taking bets on said race with Iris and Caitlin betting on Barry while HR bets on Wally. We also find out that on HR’s Earth, Abe Lincoln is on the $100 bill. It’s a tight race, but just at the end Barry phases through a building and we see that Wally isn’t quite able to phase yet. Barry wins.

Later, the police portion of the team are at a diner investigating a decomposing body. The catch here is that said body has only been dead for 8 hours. Barry wants to take the body to STAR to investigate. Julian doesn’t seem to like it, but Joe gets him to agree. At the lab Caitlin and Julian find that the body has decomposed even further so it’s obviously not a disease. Iris points out to Barry that this death is fitting into the future events which is making her nervous. Barry tells Iris that they should tell Joe, but she isn’t interested. Barry continues to tell Iris he will protect her.

In an alley in Central City, a musician named Julio is leaving a concert and is approached by a guy who wants to shake his hand. But it’s no normal handshake. The handshake causes Julio to start decomposing just like the body in the diner. Looks like we have a special new meta.

At STAR the gang tries to teach Wally how to phase, but instead Wally keeps literally running into walls. Barry’s phone alerts him to the musician’s crime scene and once there, Barry and Julian that Julio? Yeah he was the police captain in Flashpoint. This makes Julio the second Flashpoint police officer to die. Barry uses his speed to get both Julian and the corpse away from the scene before returning to tell Joe to lay low.

At the lab, Caitlin and Julian fuss over autopsy protocol and analyze the DNA of the corpse. They discover that it is indeed a meta who is killing people. The DNA of the Alchemy husks are present. This makes Julian realize that he is responsible for this murderous new meta. Caitlin and Julian call the Wests plus Barry to warn them, having identified the new villain as Clive Yorkin. However, at that moment, Yorkin walks right into Jitters and asks for Joe. He doesn’t mean coffee. Yorkin goes after Joe and even Joe shooting at him doesn’t help. The bullets disintegrate upon hitting Yorkin. Wally, as Kid Flash creates an arm vortex that blows Yorkin away.

Everyone goes back to STAR to deal with this new threat and Iris finally tells Joe about her possible future death by Savitar. This really upsets Joe and he storms out after being justifiably angry that they didn’t tell him. Iris goes after him while Caitlin and Julian talk about Julian feeling guilty for creating Yorkin. Back at Iris and Barry’s apartment, Iris tries to call her dad but he’s not answering. Then the door dissolves and Yorking just lets himself in. He’s decided that if he can’t kill Joe, he’ll just kill Iris. She manages to set off her panic alarm and alert the team. However, they decide to send Wally who ends up not being quite fast enough. Yorkin touches Iris and the decay begins.

At STAR they try to figure out how to stop the decay and the best they come up with is freezing her arm. Caitlin can use her powers to do that, but it’s risky and the team has to convince Caitlin to get frosty. She does, though, and the freezing seems to stop the spread of the decay. Wally is very shaken by his failure which requires a pep talk from Barry. As they have said chat, Cisco comes in. He and HR have realized they can use Cisco’s powers to track Yorkin.

It seems that if they vibe to Flashpoint they can see who Yorkin’s next target will be. Barry is skeptical as Flashpoint shouldn’t exist any more, but Cisco invokes the multiple earth concept so off they go to Flashpoint. In the vibe, they see Yorkin being brought through the police department and discover that the next target is an officer named Stone. In the real world she is now a private investigator and Joe goes off to find her. Joe locates Stone at the train station. Joe and Stone get on the train as Yorkin watches.

Barry and Julian discuss helping Iris and Julian points out that Iris’ blood is attacking her. Things get worse for Iris and Caitlin starts to slip to Killer Frost. It’s Julian that saves the day, though, telling Caitlin she’s stronger than the evil alter ego and Caitlin wins the day to continue helping Iris. Meanwhile on the train, Joe is trying to warn Stone but Yorkin disintegrates a bridge support making rubble hit the track to derail the train. Joe sends out his distress signal before that can happen.

To save the train Barry is going to have to phase the whole train through the debris. He jumps on board and manages to do just that just as Kid Flash is approached by Yorkin. Barry tells Wally to phase some of his speedster blood into Yorkin, encouraging Wally that he can do it. Wally cuts his own hand and give sit his all, phasing for the for the first time through Yorkin. It works. The constantly regenerating speedster blood neutralizes Yorkin’s powers.

At STAR, Iris wakes up. HR declares Wally a major hero as Cisco explains how they stopped Yorkin and Julian offers that they were then able to make an antidote to save Iris. Joe, no longer mad, tells Iris that they will all have to work as a team to stop Savitar so there can be no more secrets. Julian, still feeling guilty, leaves STAR to go find that last husk metahuman, but Caitlin follows him. She says she knows there is a good guy inside Julian and then asks him out for a drink.

Back at Iris and Barry’s apartment, Barry installs a new door before having a talk with Iris about wanting her to feel safe. She tells him that she loves and trusts him. And the episode closes with Wally practicing his phasing only for Jesse Quick to pop out of a breach, frantic. Grodd has kidnapped her dad.
