Fly Like a Girl: ‘Supergirl’ – Episode 11 ‘The Martian Chronicles’

Happy Tuesday! Last night’s Supergirl was all about the Martians. How do our heroes deal with the unwelcome White Martian visitors? Keep reading below for a spoiler-filled recap!

Kara walks into the alien bar. No, this isn’t the start of a bad joke. Kara’s there to talk to Mon-El. It seems she wants to both shut down their budding relationship by telling him that she doesn’t think they’re a good match and that she wouldn’t date someone like him. If hurting Mon-El was the plan then mission accomplished. Mon-El walks away just as Alex walks up. Alex has her own bad news for Kara. It seems that Maggie wants to take Alex out for a concert date and said concert happens to be on Kara’s Earth birthday. Kara, ever the polite one, tells Alex to go to the concert but just as soon has her sister leaves Kara asks M’gann to bring her whatever Mon-El is drinking. Imagine Kara’s surprise when M’gann reveals that Mon-El has only been drinking Kara’s favorite (club soda) lately.

M’gann goes outside and discover’s J’onn. He’s keeping track of her, wanting to protect M’gann from the Whilte Martians. M’gann claims that they aren’t on Earth just yet, but she’s wrong. A White Martian shows up just then and attacks. J’onn and M’gann are quickly overwhelmed, but Supergirl shows up and scares the White Martian away. Back at the DEO, Supergirl gives Winn a quick lecture about Guardian before M’gann decides she’s leaving. M’gann doesn’t feel she needs the protection fo the DEO.

Back at the bar, M’gann encounters a White Martian. Who exactly? Oh, just her husband, Armek. Mr. M’gann is there to bring her back to Mars with him. He also threatens both Supergirl and J’onn before telling M’gann that she has two hours to turn herself in. So what does M’gann do? Tries to leave National City. J’onn stops her and convinces her to come to the DEO for safety.

Concert excitement! Maggie is trying to get Alex into their big date, but Alex is feeling like she may have hurt Kara’s feelings. Maggie goes to chat with Kara at the DEO, but Kara claims she’s just fine. J’onn shows up with M’gann and they start to work on tracking down the White Martians. It’s then that a second M’gann shows up and J’onn realizes that he has been conned by Armek. J’onn tries to catch Armek, but Armek shuts down the power. By the time Winn is able to turn the lights back on, Armek is gone. J’onn puts the place on lockdown, but Winn points out that Armek could be hiding among them. As one of them.

How do you detect a White Martian? Winn suggests personal questions, but White Martians can read minds. J’onn currently can’t read minds as there is a psychic interference so this brainstorming session is going badly. Then J’onn says you can find a White Martian using fire. J’onn lights up a bunsen burner in the lab and one by one everyone puts their hand in the fire. This include J’onn, which is pretty intense. However, Winn attempts to stall and when he does finally put his hand in the fire? Winn turns into Armek. This goes badly. Armek tries to kill J’onn, but Supergirl shows up and scares him away with heat vision. As the gang recover from the attack there’s an alarm. It seems that Armek has set the building to explode and kill everyone in a 10 block radius. The only way to stop it is to find the real Winn.

In the hunt for Winn, Alex and Kara search together and have a chat about Kara’s Earth birthday. During the chat Kara admits that she was upset about the situation, but only because she is afraid of being abandoned by Alex. While they’re having a heart to heart, J’onn and M’gann are paired up in the search. J’onn admits he’s in love with M’gann. About that time the pair finds White Martian slime, thus discovering both Winn and Alex have been captured. This means the Alex with Supergirl is not Alex and said White Martian attacks our heroine. Supergirl fights with this White Martian in the reactor room while J’onn wakes Winn and Alex up. Winn heads to the reactor room to shut things down where Armek tackles J’onn as Winn shuts things down. Armek is about to get J’onn but M’gann shows up to help.

And now, cleanup. Supergirl takes out the White Martian she’s fighting. M’gann impales Armek. Winn shuts down the reactor with just a few seconds left. Armek, not dead from his impaling, gets up suddenly and Alex shoots him in the chest. Lockdown and crisis over. Alex goes to call Maggie. Winn goes to help James and Kara? She’s all alone with no one to party with for her birthday. J’onn is also about to find himself alone. M’gann says she is going back to Mars. She wants to inspire other White Martians to not be evil. Oh an M’gann loves J’onn, too.

Alex shows up at Kara’s apartment with a surprise cupcake. It seems that Alex remembers some of the conversation Kara had with the White Martian due to a psychic bond and promises that Kara will not be abandoned. Alex also then tells Kara that the Earth birthday might be a way to deal with her confusion about feeligns for Mon-El. Kara owns up, saying that anytime she puts herself out it goes badly. Alex encourages her to try just the same. The next day, Kara runs into Mon-El at CatCo. He’s on his way out to lunch with James’ assistant and instead of telling Mon-El how she feels, Kara just walks away.
