Welcome back! This week’s Valentine-themed episode picks up right where we left off: the appearance of Mxyzptlk. Love, or something like it, is definitely in the air but if you don’t want to be spoiled now’s the time to avoid cupid. Onward to the recap!

Kara’s apartment gets a bit of a transformation when Mxyzptlk shows up. The visitor manifests a string quartet, candles, and flowers for Kara and when Mon-El objects? Mxyzptlk transports him to the DEO before sticking Kara in a wedding dress and proposing. Oh, Mxy. It seems our visitor has it bad for Kara.

At the DEO, J’onn explains that Mxy is a 5th dimensional imp. The Martians and the Daxamites both have had some experience with his kind before. They are fun and love to party, but they are also very dangerous. J’onn needs to send M’gann a Valentine message. Kara tells Mon-El that they will get back to what they were talking about once Mxy is sent away. Over at Alex’s apartment, Alex discovers that Maggie hates Valentine’s Day. Alex, on the other hand, loves it. All the Danvers love it. Mama Danvers even sent a cheesy card.

Winn goes drinking at the alien Noonan’s for Valentine’s Day, but is about to get eaten by some pretty bad looking aliens. Fortunately Winn is saved by an alien from Starhaven, Lyra. Turns out Winn is a major Starhaven geek which lands him a date with Lyra. Elsewhere, Supergirl stops a bank robbery. Or rather, stops it until Mxy shows up and then tries to kill the crooks with their own guns! Supergirl saves them, but Mxy thinks this is how he wins Kara over.

At the DEO Kara fills everyone in on how messed up and dangerous Mxy is. Mon-El is in full jealous mode and wants the imp dead, which Kara doesn’t agree with. J’onn has Winn go hunting for an alien artifact that might stop Mxy. Emphasis on might. After, Kara and Alex go to Kara’s apartment which is full of roses from Mxy. The sisters chat a bit about the holiday and Kara suggests that Alex make Valentine’s all about Maggie so they can celebrate. The chat is interrupted by Parasite, though. Supergirl goes to fight him and Mon-El helps before Mxy shows up as Superman and saves the day. Turns out, Mxy was responsible for Parasite. Mon-El threatens him, but Kara makes Mon-El leave. Mxy then warns her that unless she marries him, things will get worse.

Later, Kara and Mon-El fight about Mxy. In their heated exchange Mon-El reveals how you get rid of Mxy. The trick? Get him to say his name backwards. The two part, still upset, and Mon-El finds Winn. Winn has the artifact that might work and Mon-El swipes it because Winn thinks it could kill Mxy. In news of other couples not having a good day, Maggie gets mad at Alex over the Maggie-centric Valentine’s date. It turns out that Valentine’s Day is when a 14-year-old Maggie was outed to and kicked out by her family. Winn’s date is going far better. He and Lyra start making out.

Mon-El, artifact in tow, challenges Mon-El to a Daxamite duel. Mxy transports them to a theater where they look like they are about to have their own two-man version of Hamilton. Mon-El briefly has the upper hand because of the artifact, but Mxy prevails and is about to shoot Mon-El when Supergirl arrives. Kara agrees to marry Mxy. She tells him to meet her the next day at noon at the Fortress for a Kryptonian wedding.

The morning of the wedding Mon-El tries to talk Kara out of it, but she says she has to marry Mxy to save Earth. Oh, and she and Mon-El just don’t work. Then Kara runs into Maggie looking for Alex. Kara mentions that maybe Maggie should change if she cares about Alex as Valentine’s Day is a big deal to Alex. Then it’s off to the Fortress. Kara tells Mxy that she won’t marry him. She’s brought him to the Fortress to keep him from hurting people if he takes things badly, which he does. Mxy animates the statues at the Fortress to attack Kara, but she stops them and then sets the atomic cauldron to explode, sealing the Fortress to lock them inside. Mxy can’t stop her from killing herself with the detonation and he begs for the code. She gives it to him, but it was a trap. The code? Mxy’s name spelled backwards. Kara tells Mxy, as he vanishes, that he can’t force love. He can let it find him instead.

Winn and Lyra go out for a real date. They talk about taking it slow and end up going back to his place. Maggie sets up a Valentine’s Day dance as an apology to Alex. And wrapping the episode up in a nice red ribbon? Mon-El and Kara make up and seal it with a kiss.

Next week it’s a very special Danvers family reunion. See you then!
