Let’s cut right to the chase. Last night’s episode brought Team Flash back together with Harry and let us find out what Grodd is up to. Want to find out how our heroes fared in Gorilla City in part one of a two episode event? Your spoiler-filled recap starts now.

Oh how I’ve missed the “real” Harrison Wells. We kick off with Harry running through the woods, tripping over a log, and then being taken away by a gorilla. At STAR Jesse is explaining to the team that on Earth-2 there is a city in the jungle that sentient gorillas run. Yes, a Gorilla City. HR shows up and Jesse thinks for a moment that he’s her dad, hugging him before awkwardly being told it’s not her dad. Barry then explains to the team that one of the headlines they are trying to change is one about a gorilla attack on Central City. Barry thinks Gorilla City is where these gorillas come from so he puts together a crew consisting of Cisco, Julian, and Caitlin to go to Earth-2, rescue Harry, and hopefully change a headline. Barry sidelines Jesse on Earth-1 to help Wally, who proudly shows Jesse that he’s a speedster. She’s not impressed.

The gang arrives in Earth-2 and pretty quickly see a temple with a stone gorilla adorning it. They’re in the right place. Meanwhile back home, Wally and Jesse aren’t at ease with each other but that’s interrupted by a bank robbery. The kids suit up and go stop things, but Wally pretty much shows off while Jesse watches which leads to more tension between the two. Meanwhile on Earth-2 the team tracks Harry’s watch, but it turns out to be a trap. They are hit with tranquilizer darts and pass out before Grodd literally jumps on the scene. As they wake up, the team realizes they’re in cells they can’t get out of with their powers. Grodd is dampening their abilities. Meanwhile Harry shows up, but it’s not Harry. Grodd has taken over Harry’s body, speaking through him. What does Grodd have to say? That the team needs to stop Solovar because he wants to take over Earth-1. Grodd even gives them an ultimatum: stop Solovar or Earth-1 gets it.

Back on Earth-1 Wally asks Jesse to stay there with him. The conversation slides a different direction than Wally expects when Jesse tells him that she feels like Wally doesn’t need her, that he’s more complete without her. Especially now that he has access to the Speed Force.

Gorilla City. Solovar shows up where the team is imprisoned and decides that he will fight Barry to the death in the arena. Think of it as something out of a movie about gladiators. Solovar and Barry battle and it’s epic. Solovar is a tough opponent and it looks like Barry might lose, but then Barry attempts to phase his hand which knocks Solovar out. Barry then takes the moment to appeal to the gorillas that he comes in peace and that humans want no battle with gorilla. Unfortunately Grodd is mad and it’s back to jail for Barry. Speaking through Harry, Grodd reveals that Solovar wasn’t going to invade Earth-1. That’s Grodd’s plan now that he’s the leader. Grodd has an axe to grind and demands that Cisco open a breach so the invasion can begin. Left alone to think, Harry wakes up and the team starts trying to figure out how to avoid this invasion. Cisco says that if he were dead this would be no issue. Barry agrees that someone has to die.

Next thing you know Barry is on the floor and he’s blue. Caitlin is crying, telling Grodd that one of Barry’s kidneys must have failed and he’s dead. Grodd takes Barry out of the cell and tosses his body on a pile of bones before leaving again. However, Barry’s not dead. He phases out of the frozen state that Caitlin deliberately put him in and, once warm, Barry gets everyone out. They speed off to the jungle’s center where Cisco vibes the group away, just narrowly escaping the gorillas.

Back at STAR, HR admits that he’s a fraud version of Harry. Jesse tells Wally that she’s going to tell her dad that she wants to move to Earth-1 and the couple kisses. Julian and Caitlin talk about her powers before Julian asks Caitlin on a date. Barry and Iris talk about their future with Barry deciding he’s going to live a long life with her. It’s all very nice, but in the final scene? Grodd has Gypsy. And she’s going to open a portal between the worlds.

Next week? Gorillas invade! See you then!
