Welcome back everyone! It feels like forever since we’ve last had a new episode of Supergirl, but now we’re settled in for the run to the end of the season. The last time we saw our caped heroine she had lost her job so let’s find out what she’s doing these days! Spoilers from this point forward.

We begin with Supergirl flying around the city before arriving at the DEO. She is incredibly enthusiastic, but there’s nothing going on. Everyone else goes off to do the regular parts of their job leaving Supergirl with nothing left to do but go home and watch cooking shows. Kara’s sad attempts at baking are interrupted by Lena Luthor. Lena wants Kara to join her at a press conference for Spheerical Industries, a company owned by her ex-boyfriend. Lena needs Kara there for support.

When the ladies get to the press conference Snapper is sitting nearby. He’s not happy to see her. Then Jack Spheer, Lena’s ex, both partner and boyfriend, comes out on stage. He cuts his hand on camera and a tiny swarm of flying nanobots fly to the wound, healing it with itty bitty lasers. Lena is thrilled to see that their work finally came together. Her eyes meet Jack’s. The technology’s name is Biomax. Everyone is super excited, except for Snapper, and that lack of excitement increases when Jack calls on Kara for questions first. It takes Kara a moment, but she finally gets out a good question which Jack answers.

Later, Jack and Lena meet up and talk outside the conference. Kara leaves them to chat, but on her way out one of  Spheer’s employees tells her that he needs to speak with her regarding Spheer. Jack invites Lena to dinner, but his CFO pulls him away before she can answer. Guardian is dealing with run of the mill bad guys in an alley while Winn and Lyra are in teh van making out. James isn’t happy about Lyra being there, but Winn says that it’s James’ moral obligation to rehabilitate Lyra.

Kara goes to meet with the man from the press conference, Joe Watkins. Joe tells Kara that he was a lab tech at Spheerical, but was recently fired. He thinks that the human trials for Biomax were faked. He isn’t able to elaborate, though. The car is surrounded by nanobots that cause the car to explode. Kara, burning but unharmed, escaped. Joe unfortunately dies. Hoping to get answers, Kara goes to CatCo and asks James to file a Freedom of Information Act request for her. Snapper walks in and decides to fight about it, causing Kara to back off. She does, however, use her super-hearing to listen in on what Snapper has to say to James and gets a new lead.

Speer visits Lena at L Corp. He tells her that he doesn’t like how their relationship ended and convinces her to go to dinner with him. Meanwhile, Snapper meets with someone who is supposed to be one of the human trial test subjects for Biomax. Except he says that he never did any tests. The apartment is attacked by the nanobots just then. Supergirl comes in to rescue them, but is only able to save Snapper and then only by freezing the nanobots in place.

Kara gets home and tries to tell Mon-El about things, but he tells her that Lena called. She is having dinner with Jack. Kara decides to tag along, bringing Mon-El with her. They join Jack and Lena at their table and Kara starts asking Jack about human trials. Lena asks him how he figured out the nanobots. Jack says that he realized he could pattern the swarm after bees, who needed a queen that could be controlled. Lena is impressed, but Jack says that he came to the discovery by thinking about Lena. Lena asks Kara and Mon-El to leave them alone, but before they go Mon-El hugs Jack. Mon-El stole his badge.

Jack and Lena end up at L Corp and start making up. Mon-El and Kara head to Spheerical and look for the Biomax human trial data. They find one video of Jack injecting himself with the nanobots and then turning into a swarm. Kara realizes that there were no human trials and that Jack has been killing people. She inserts a thumb drive to steal the video but as she does Jack suddenly stops kissing Lena. He abruptly has to go to the office. Kara and Mon-El escape just before the nanobot swarm enters the office and reforms as Jack.

The next day Kara alerts Lena that Biomax is bad and Jack is hiding it. Lena denies it, but Kara shows her the video. Crushed, Lena asks Kara to let her talk to Jack before going public. Kara tells Lena to avoid Jack for her own safety and Lena reluctantly agrees before Kara apologies and leaves. At the alien bar, Winn tries to tell Lyra that he and James won’t work with her anymore following a bad turn at a liquor store. It doesn’t go well which makes Winn upset with James.

Kara goes to CatCo and brings Snapper all of her research on Spheerical. She also expresses her regret about how she handled the Cadmus blog. It seems that’s what Snapper needed to hear and starts collaborating with Kara. He tells her that he thinks the CFO may be equally as responsible due to her financial stake.

Lena confronts Jack in his lab. Lena tells him that they always knew Biomax had side effects, namely that the rats they tested became completely subservient. Jack doesn’t believe what Lena tells him about his killing people is true and by the time Lena realizes he’s telling the truth Jack suddenly goes quiet. The CFO, Breen, shows up and reveals that she’s got him mind controlled thanks to the nanobots. And instead of killing Lena, Breen wants to force Jack to inject Lena. This would let Breen take over L Corp. Supergirl shows up though, teaming up with Lena. Lena physically fights Breen while Supergirl goes after the nanobots. Lena is able to break Breen’s control of Jack, but the nanobots are trying to kill Supergirl. Jack tells Lena how to stop it with an override, but Breen warns that killing the nanobots will also kill Jack. Jack tells Lena to do it. Lena does. Supergirl is freed, but Jack dies in front of them while Lena sobs.

Kara brings Lena flowers later, but Lena is still in shock. She is worried about who she will be when the shock and denial wears off. Kara promises to be there for her and that they’ll always be friends. James tells Winn that he’s sorry about how he reacted to Lyra and that Winn is his best friend since Clark. James then surprises Winn by bringing Lyra back to the team. And at CatCo, Kara brings Snapper homemade danish. He has something for her, too. Snapper gave Kara a co-byline with him on the Spheerical story! He tells Kara that she did well and that she can have her job back, oh and she can’t cook.

And then, just before the episode ends, Rhea comes to see Lena at L Corp. Mon-El’s evil mom has a business proposition.

Next week? Alex is in danger! See you then!
