Hello again! This week Supergirl deals with her sister, Alex, being in grave danger while Lena Luthor gets a visit from none other than Mon-El’s wicked mom, Rhea. After the emotional punch of last week’s episode it will be interesting to see where this one goes so brace yourself for spoilers! It’s on to the recap.

Our episode opens with Maggie trying to negotiate with a someone who has taken hostages. It’s something in the police’s wheelhouse, but the standoff comes to an end when Supergirl flies up and takes out a pair of bad guys. This annoys Maggie as it interfered with her job, but hey, it’s Supergirl’s job to help. Right? Kara then flies off to get some food with her man, Mon-El.

Also eating is Alex and Maggie and they end up debating with Mon-El and Kara about whether or not they (meaning the aliens) should step in to help the police. Maggie brings up that there are even cases in courts where suspects use a Supergirl defense to claim that the excessive force and contaminated evidence from Supergirl’s interventions should get them off. Maggie thinks Supergirl needs to stick to the big stuff and stay out of cop work. Kara disagrees and excuses herself. With Kara gone, Alex asks her girlfriend to try harder to get along with her sister, then goes to tell Kara the same in regards to Maggie. She doesn’t make it, though.

At L-Corp, Rhea approaches Lena. Seems that Rhea wants to use teleportation gates (the ones used for slaves) to revolutionize Earth. Rhea also pretends she’s not an alien out to get Supergirl. At CatCo, Maggie shows up to ask Kara if she’s seen Alex and that’s when the pair realizes Alex is missing. Kara’s phone rings then and the man on the other end says he knows she’s different and that he has Alex. Kara gets a photo of a tied up Alex and the man says that if a man named Peter Thompson isn’t broken out of prison, Alex dies.

Alex wakes up where she’s being held and talks big about how whoever has her has one chance to let her go or she’ll kill them once she’s free. At the DEO they start hunting for Alex since negotiating isn’t an option. Maggie wants to figure out why Peter Thompson matters instead. Meanwhile, Rhea and Lena are out at dinner while Rhea tells Lena that her son met some awful girl and destroyed their family. Rhea also gives Lena a USB drive with key concepts of the teleportation idea. The two toast, Rhea thanks the gods for Lena and Lena looks suspicious.

So the DEO goes and finds this Thompson guy in jail, but Thompson has no idea who might have taken Alex. J’onn reads his mind and confirms this so Kara and J’onn leave. Then they get a call from Winn. Turns out Thompson has a son who grew up in Kara’s hometown. Kara finds this man’s house and goes there, finding footage of Alex. She also finds Rick Malverne. He has Alex, but won’t tell Kara where she is. Rick tells Kara that the only way Alex gets free is if he gets his dad out of jail. Kara threatens him, but Alex reminds her that without him, Alex dies.

So why the vendetta against Supergirl? Turns out This guy saw Kara Danvers rescue a baby from a burning car as a teenager and figured out she was Supergirl years later. Rick had an abusive mom and Thompson saved him from that. Rick just wants to do the same for his dad. Kara gets mad, gets physical and Maggie calls her off. Maggie then tells Kara that Thompson is the key to rescuing Alex.

Lena figures out that Rhea’s design won’t work due to it containing elements that aren’t on Earth. She then kicks Rhea out of her office.

At the prison, Rick is brought to see his father, but figures out it’s J’onn and brags that he was prepared for the Martian. Meanwhile Alex claws something out of her skin and is able to get the IP address of her tracker to update. Winn figures out that Alex has done this and tracks the IP, giving the information to Supergirl. She goes to save her sister but instead of Alex, Supergirl finds a note reading “now you have four” and suddenly instead of sixteen hours remaining on the clock, there are now four. Alex’s cell starts to fill with water.

Supergirl goes back to the DEO and demands to know where Alex is. Rick won’t budge. Supergirl does get to speak with Alex, though, and Alex tells her that Supergirl can’t be blackmailed. Alex also talks to Maggie alone because Alex wants to say goodbye, but Maggie refuses to hear it and refuses to give up. When the talk is over, Maggie is angry at Kara and blames her for all of this.

Rhea reveals herself to be an alien and hopes Lena will consider working with her. Rhea says she truly wants to build a transmatter portal and hopes Lena will forgive her. Lena says she’ll consider it. Rhea leaves. The Lena calls Kara to ask advice, but Kara tells her it’s a bad time. Kara is over the city, listening for Alex. J’onn show sup and reminds her that Alex is important to everyone and that Maggie is just scared. Kara admits she is also afraid and so does J’onn. They hug.

Maggie goes to talk to Rick. Rick tells her that loves makes people do things outside the norm and asks Maggie to help him bring back the people that they love. Alex’s cell continues to fill with water while she tries to break the glass walls and fails. At the DEO they are scrambling for ideas and realize Maggie is gone. And Maggie? She breaks Thompson out and runs smack into Supergirl. Supergirl tells Thompson that she knows Rick isn’t a bad person and asks for help. Thompson tells her that there is only one place he thinks Rick might have taken Alex so Kara and Maggie go there. They arrive just as Alex’s air runs out. Kara breaks the glass with a punch and out slides Alex into Maggie’s arms.

Back at the DEO Alex recovers in the med bay and Maggie comes to visit her. They agree about never wanting to stop having firsts, say that they love each other and then go out to the main area. Alex punches Rick in the face before J’onn wipes his mind to protect Kara, then Kara makes up with Maggie and they hug.

And then Lena calls Kara back to set up a lunch date. She no longer needs advice, though. Lena is going to work with Rhea.

Until next week!
