Last night’s episode put our hero in position for the season finale. It also gave us some of the most emotional moments of any season yet. There’s really not a way to describe things without getting heavy into spoilers so if you’re ready for the recap, just be warned it’s quite a roller coaster.
We open with a lovely, but sad song as we go around to all the members of Team Flash as they prepare for the last twenty-four hours before the death of Iris. HR and Tracy are working on the bazooka. Cisco gets word from Felicity that she has no solution. Joe and Wally hug. Iris gets Barry to leave bed to get her caviar and while he’s gone she takes his phone and starts to record a video for him. We don’t see the rest of that video just yet. Barry and Iris are getting ready for the day and Barry has to hurry off to ARGUS. Barry and Cisco speak with Lyla outside ARGUS headquarters. It seems ARGUS has a power source from the Dominators’ ship, but Lyla can’t trust Barry with it so he can’t have it for the Bazooka.
Barry goes back to STAR and tells the team he wants to break into ARGUS to get that power source. Cisco explains how that won’t work, but even as Cisco is explaining all the tools ARGUS has to keep people out Barry decides he just needs a different ally. He decides he needs Captain Cold so Barry goes back to 1892 and finds Leonard Snart. Snart agrees to help so Barry brings him back to STAR and gives the team the plan. Meanwhile, Killer Frost is talking with Savitar and tries to get him to reconsider murdering Iris. Savitar is having none of it, though, because if Iris doesn’t die then Savitar doesn’t exist. While they’re talking, Savitar gets a flash of memory regarding Barry going to Snart for help and now Savitar knows the plan.
Snart has a pretty sophisticated plan and understanding about where the power source could be stored. Before they go to enact the plan, Barry tells Joe to get Iris far away and not tell him. He thinks that if he doesn’t know where Iris is, Savitar can’t get to her. So when Barry leaves, Joe, Iris and Wally end up on Earth-2 hanging with Harrison Wells.
ARGUS. Barry uses HR’s face changing device to impersonate Lyla and gain access with Snart. He’s almost held up by security words, but a desperate Barry just knocks them out. Over on Earth-2, Joe and Iris have a heartwarming chat where they reveal secrets. Iris used to sneak out and make Barry cover for her. Joe used some of their tuition money for a cruise. It’s adorable and sad. At ARGUS, Barry and Snart go down the hall of criminals, such as Grodd, Cheetah and Cupid. They also find the power source and discover it’s being guarded by a fancy lock (that Snart opens easily) and also by King Shark.
Barry gets Snart to give him the cold gun. You see, Barry thinks he has to kill King Shark to get that power source, but Snart is smarter here. He tells Barry the better option is to just use the gun to chill the room down enough that King Shark falls asleep. Snart wins for science and King Shark falls asleep. Barry goes and gets the power source, which sets off an alarm and causes the door to close. Barry is able to get out, but Snart doesn’t. Instead of just leaving, Barry gets Cisco to open the door and get Snart out. One catch, though. King Shark grabs Snart’s leg and almost drags him back in. Barry is able to pull Snart out just enough that when the door slams shut, it cuts off King Shark’s hand. Snart and Barry don’t get far, though. Lyla is right there when they turn around. But Lyla recognizes that Barry could have just left Snart behind, but he didn’t. Lyla gives Barry the power source.
At STAR, Barry runs into the lab and asks where Iris is. HR explains that she’s on Earth-2 and then we discover that the speedster isn’t Barry. It’s Savitar. Despite a quick warning, Savitar shows up on Earth-2. Wally is severely injured trying to fight him. Savitar takes Iris anyway and Barry shows up just a moment too late.
Everyone is upset. Cisco gives HR a pep talk before getting his supplies and going to the elevator. He gets a vibe then about Killer Frost and Barry tells Cisco to go talk to her and save her while he saves Iris. Then, everyone heads to Infantino Street while Cisco goes to the forest and Killer Frost says she wants to kill him.
And now, Infantino Street. Savitar arrives with Iris. He briefly drops Iris and gives Barry a chance to catch him. Barry uses the bazooka and for a brief moment it looks like it will work. But then, it fails. Savitar has the Philosopher’s Stone. He then picks up Iris just like we’ve seen in the visions. And it all starts to go down. Savitar pulls his blade, Barry races at him and that sad song from the opening plays. It cuts to the rest of the video Iris recorded. What did she record?
Do you have tissues? Get tissues.
Iris records her wedding vows for Barry.
And then Savitar stabs Iris and she falls dead into Barry’s arms.
Next week it’s the season finale. I’ll be crying until then.
