As usual, the summer months are our busy time for the alumni of our favorite singing show as the show itself looks to make a comeback in the spring of next year.
With new music, tours on the horizon, and personal news the American Idol alum are keeping busy. Let’s see what they’ve been up to.

There’s a whole lot of new music for those fans looking for the soundtrack to their summer. Season 7 winner David Cook just released his new single “Gimme Heartbreak”, announcing the PledgeMusic campaign for his forthcoming EP the same day. There’s all sorts of rewards to be had, so if you’re a fan of the rocker, be sure to check it out!
Season 10 contestant Haley Reinhart also has an album dropping soon entitled “What’s That Sound”. It’s available for pre-order now and you can here her single “Baby It’s You” right away before the album drops Sept. 22.
Last month, I reported that season 10 winner Scotty McCreery had released a new song entitled “Five More Minutes.” The country singer’s moving track about being able to buy more time in life now has a video as well that will tug on your heartstrings.
Indie guitarist and Season 9 runner-up Crystal Bowersox also released a new album entitled “Alive” which features both new music and reinterpretations of other songs from the singer’s discography. The album is now available for purchase as well as on streaming services.
Last, but certain not least, is season 12 semi-finalist Cortez Shaw who just released his debut single “Burn” for streaming and purchase. It’s good to hear that Cortez has been hard at work since the show!

Summer also means plenty of tours and other appearances for our Idol alum. Season 9 contestant Katie Stevens is busy starring in her new TV show “The Bold Type” which premieres July 11 on Freeform.
As well, Season 5 country super star Kellie Pickler will be performing on PBS’s “A Capital Fourth” show on July 4th. A new season of her show “I Love Kellie Pickler” also premieres on Aug. 3 on CMT.
Several alum are also touring or playing shows in the near future, from Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta to rocker and possible future Idol judge Chris Daughtry, who is touring with Nickelback. Gospel singers Mandisa (from season 5) and Danny Gokey (from season 8) are even touring together, which should be a great show!

In Idol revival news, the show is still searching for it’s coveted third judge, with names like rocker Nikki Sixx and the legendary Lionel Ritchie getting tossed around in the conversation. Stalwart host Ryan Seacrest has also apparently signed on, though ABC has yet to make an official announcement about his return.
In other news, Season 4 country singing veteran Josh Gracin got married this past month to his longtime girlfriend Katie. Congratulations to the couple they (and they’re wedding cake) looked stunning!
