Entertainment Roundup: What Happened In June

This month, the world of entertainment saw a mix of highs and lows. With new babies on the way (and arriving), an end to one of music’s biggest feuds, and Cosby’s day in court, we’ve covered the month’s top entertainment news stories for you! Let’s take a look at what made the most noise in June’s headlines…

Early this month, A-list actor George Clooney, and human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, welcomed twins into the world! The new arrivals marks the first children for the pair. The couple’s rep released a statement shortly after the birth saying, “This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine. George is sedated and should recover in a few days.”

But the Clooney’s weren’t alone in the arrival of twins! This month, Beyoncé and Jay Z reportedly welcomed the birth of their newest family members at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles. The twins are the second and third child to the couple, who share a daughter named Blue Ivy Carter, aged 5. A source tells People, “Bey and Jay are thrilled and have started sharing the news with their family and closest friends.” While no word on the names have been released, we wish the Carters and the Clooneys nothing but the best!

Baby, Baby, Baby, Oh

While The Clooneys and Carters are busy celebrating their newest arrivals, Kim and Kanye, and Serena Williams have plenty to look forward to with announcements of new babies on the way! According to a report from People, Kim Kardahsian West and husband Kanye West are moving forward with a third child via surrogate. Fans of the couple likely saw multiple episodes of this season’s Keeping Up With the Kardshians showing Kim undergoing a painful procedure to repair a hole in her uterus.

It was later revealed she would not be able to carry another child, moving forward. While no official statement has been released, we’re very excited for the possibility of a new little West in the world! Meanwhile, tennis pro (and all around bad ass) Serena Williams announced her pregnancy earlier this year, but showed off her growing bump on the cover of Vanity Fair in a beautifully-done nude photoshoot. Congratulations to both couples!

Letting It Go

This month, singer Katy Perry dropped her new album Witness, and promoted it by participating in a Big Brother-style live stream for 96 hours. Perry stayed in a house filled with mics and cameras to capture the 32-year-old’s every move. During the event, Perry was incredibly open, even broadcasting her therapy session where she talked about her fears of losing herself in the industry, and a time she thought about taking her own life. But one of the most-talked-about moments from the stream came when Perry sat down with Arianna Huffington and discussed her ongoing feud with fellow pop star, Taylor Swift.

Only this time, Perry is putting the drama behind her. “I forgive [Swift], and I’m sorry for anything I ever did, and I hope the same from her, and I think it’s actually… I think it’s time,” the “Firework” singer said. “There are bigger fish to fry, and there are bigger problems in the world. I love her and I want the best for her, and I think she’s a fantastic songwriter, and like, I think that if we both, her and I, can be representatives of strong women that come together despite their differences, I think the whole world is going to go, like, ‘Yeah, we can do this.'” The ball’s in your court, Ms. Swift.

Cosby Trial Ends

This month, comedian Bill Cosby’s trial (where he faced charges of aggravated indecent assault) was declared a mistrial after the jury, which deliberated for six days, was stuck in a deadlock. Despite the result of the case, prosecutes will retry the case. Additionally, Cosby also has a tentative date for a separate trial set for July 30, 2018 in Los Angeles. The trial comes after a civil suit accused Cosby of sexually assaulting a minor at the Playboy Mansion in 1974.

Cosby responded to rumors that he will conduct cross-country town hall meetings discussing sexual assault on Twitter writing, “The current propaganda that I am going to conduct a sexual assault tour is false. Any further information about public plans will be given at the appropriate time.” At the present time, Cosby’s rep has informed the media the comedian will not be addressing sexual assault at this time.
