After dazzling Europe this past spring, Bruno Mars brought his 24K Magic World Tour to Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada on July 26 for the first of two sold-out arena concerts. The consummate performer never ceases to blow audiences away with his live performance offerings — be it at the Super Bowl half-time show or during awards ceremonies — and his concerts are no exception as he engages his audiences in a full-on dance party.

Supporting act Camila Cabello is a high achiever. After branching out from the girl group Fifth Harmony last year, the pop singer has embarked on a solo career, with this being her first time touring as an artist of her own right. During her set, she introduced songs from her forthcoming album, Camila, including “OMG,” “Havana,” “Inside Out,” “Know No Better,” “I’ll Never Be The Same” and her first single, “Crying In The Club,” as well as performed her collaboration track with Machine Gun Kelly, “Bad Things.” With her abundant confidence, strong energy, and upbeat personality, Cabello more than fulfilled the tall-order duty of warming up the crowd for Mars.
Bruno Mars and the Hooligans, stepping out in technicolor style with color coordinated baseball jerseys and matching trackpants, were welcomed on stage to deafening applause and cheers which never relented. A crew of vocal beasts, incredible instrumentalists and dance machines, the Hooligan crew over-delivered in providing the entertainer factor throughout the entire evening.

To promote and showcase 24K Magic, the retro-soul throwback to old school R&B and funkified fresh beats, Mars performed nearly all of the tracks from his latest album. Upon taking over the stage with “Finesse” and conjuring up a dynamic dosage of “24K Magic” in the air, Mars continued to up the ante with fun, uptempo jams like “Perm,” “Chunky” and “That’s What I Like” before slowing things down a few notches with the smooth grooves “Calling All My Lovelies,” “Straight Up & Down” and the tantalizing “Versace On The Floor.” Also appearing on the setlist were mega hits and fan favorites such as “Treasure,” “Marry You,” “Runaway Baby,” “Just The Way You Are,” and “Locked Out Of Heaven”. Two highlights from this selection were the wistful and stunning ballad “When I Was Your Man” from Unorthodox Jukebox and the dark and fiery rendition of “Grenade” from Doo-Wops & Hooligans.
True to the ‘go big or go home’ philosophy, the 24K Magic tour went all out in terms of production value. Along with the brightly colored visuals and moving stage elements, Mars’ show had firecrackers, pyrotechnics, strobe lights and laser effects synchronized to the beats. The seamlessness of the flow between the production and the music felt like being involved in a series of live music videos.

Even with all of the spectacles surrounding him, not once did Mars compromise his musical talents, which continues to prove to be his most treasured asset. With influences of legends like Michael Jackson, Prince, Elvis Presley and James Brown apparent in his style, the multitalented performer was baring his heart and soul and throwing out glory notes with his impeccable vocals, breaking it down with dance solos and shredding it on the electric with guitar solos. Mars has a remarkable ability to connect with and charm his audience with his signature mix of down-to-earth swagger and flirtatious zest, teasing the crowd throughout the evening to get up and get louder.
During the encore of Mars’ biggest hit, “Uptown Funk,” the audience was showered with a storm of gold confetti and danced and sang like there as no tomorrow. By the time the firemen appeared on stage to wrap up the festivities, fans were feeling hashtag blessed and were already counting down the days to the next tour with the coolest man in showbiz.
Bruno Mars will be bringing his 24K Magic World Tour back to North America in Fall 2018 with special guest (and Finesse Remix collaborator) Cardi B. For concert dates, visit brunomars.com.
This was by far the most heart field, fun and amazing concert we have ever been to. Bruno interacted with the audience and keep everyone on there toes dancing and singing with him all night. He is so genuine and the bad is just as good. Thank you Bruno for an awesome concert.
First of all, I have nothing but love for Bruno and the band! However, I was so disappointed after buying six tickets to the 24k concert in Charlotte and I also bought two tickets to the Raleigh concert for my son. The reason I was so disappointed was because the concert was really too loud. Totally unnecessary, because Bruno is better than having to cover up his craft with such loud sound. Sorry folks, just some tough love!
