Monthly ‘Idol’ Roundup: July 2017

As the weather heats up in the summer months, so do the schedules of our Idol‘s and with announcements about the show’s impending revival in 2018, there’s plenty to talk about in this month’s Idol catch-up, so let’s get right to it.

New Music

Idol‘s alum have been busy making and releasing new music. Several of the shows winners are keeping busy with David Cook releasing the lyric video for his new single “Gimme Heartbreak” off his crowd-funded EP, Kris Allen releasing a fourth song with his side project The Dames entitled “All I Want Is You, and Lee DeWyze teasing his forthcoming album with his haunting new single “The Breakdown.

Other alum have also been churning out the tunes with Season 10’s Haley Reinhart releasing her second single “The Letter” off her forthcoming album “What’s That Sound” which is out September 22nd. Rocker James Durbin also just released his first music video with his new band Quiet Riot for their song “Can’t Get Enough.. Their first album with Durbin behind the mic entitled “Road Rage” comes out August 4th.

Season 15 punk rocker Dalton Rapattoni has also released the first single entitled “Signs” from his new album “Nobody’s Home” out Sept. 22. Season 11 soul singer Joshua Ledet has also broken ground with his self-titled EP, which came out this past month. It’s great to finally get new music from such a talented guy!

Appearances

On August 27, 2017 new Idol judge Katy Perry will be taking the stage at The Forum to host the MTV Video Music Awards. Hopefully the new gig will help Perry prepare for her time on camera mentoring a new crop of contestant when Idol returns but, just in case, one of the shows alum and friend to the singer — Adam Lambert – has been giving Perry some tips including giving contestants specific rather than vague critiques to help them improve. Good advice, Adam!

Other News

The legacy of the show itself has also seen plenty of shake ups this month, with Ryan Seacrest finally striking a deal to return as the host when the show comes back in March of next year. Rumors have also been swirling about who will occupy the other two spots on the judging panel next to Katy Perry. Current favorites include the legendary Lionel Richie, pop singer-songwriter Charlie Puth (who has some experience mentoring contestants on NBC’s The Voice), and country superstar Luke Bryan. Ex-judge Keith Urban is apparently also in talks to return.

Also, with the show amping up for a triumphant return, they’ve announced a massive schedule of auditions to search for the next Superstar. Those interested should check out the Idol website.

On a more serious note, Season 11 alum Erika Van Pelt has also shared a link to a GoFundMe campaign to help raise money for her dad’s cancer care. Definitely a worthy cause and we hope he gets the care he needs!

Who do you hope Idol seals a deal with to judge? And which new Idol music will you be checking out? Let me know in the comments!
