Apple’s new iOS 11 became available earlier this week and while any major change can be a little daunting, this latest update comes with some pretty incredible features that users are going to love. And we’re not just talking about new emojis either. The new iOS 11 is packed with some really useful features that are designed to and actually deliver on making our lives easier.
While there are tons of new features in this update, we’ve picked out our top five that really will help you be more productive (and might keep you safer, too).
Personalized suggestions for cleaning up your phone
Do you get that “storage almost full warning all the time but never really know what you should delete to fix it? Then this iOS 11 feature is for you. When you go into your iPhone Storage section you won’t only get information about how much space you’ve used, but below it will be suggestions of what you can get rid of in order to free up space. It also looks like you will have some housekeeping tools in there as well to make that cleanup task so much easier.
Files
Why not make your virtual space as tidy as your office space? The new Files app brings together ever file you have on iOS devices and puts them in one handy app so you can label, color code and organize to your heart’s content. It also lets you add other file-storage services to the mix so you can easily access everything from one handy place making us all more efficient and organized in the process.
One-handed typing
If you’re like we are, most of your phone time is spent while multitasking and every attempt at typing one handed ends in some crazy typos or weird autocorrect moments. Not anymore! With the QuickType keyboard, you can choose from three different keyboards based on your needs. There’s a regular keyboard and one each for both right handed and left-handed users. QuickType moves the keyboard to the appropriate side of the screen for your choice, making it easier for you to hold your phone and type with just one hand.
Do Not Disturb while driving
Distracted driving is a serious issue and cell phone use is a major cause of distracted driving. To combat that and help keep users safer behind the while, iOS 11 includes the new “Do Not Disturb While Driving” setting. You can set it to turn on automatically, turn it on manually or even have it come on when your phone connects to your car’s Bluetooth. Once enabled, people who text you will get an auto reply letting them know that you’re driving. You also won’t get a notification while you’re behind the wheel, encouraging drivers to stay focused on the road so they can get to their destination safely.
Detailed mall and airport maps
You no longer have to look for a mall directory or hope you can find your way to an airport bathroom in a hurry again. The updated Maps app now features detailed maps of airports and malls across the world that will show you specifically where different stores, restaurants and restrooms are located. You simply have to pull up the map for the airport or mall you’re looking for in the app, no more wandering around.
