Monthly ‘Idol’ Roundup: September 2017

Fall has begun and even though the weather in some places has yet to get the memo, our Idol alum have definitely received the message loud and clear. As the holiday season draws near, the show’s contestants are busy releasing new music and planning shows, among other things, so let’s fill you in on the details of what they’ve been up to…

New Music

Last month we reported that Kelly Clarkson had been teasing new music prior to her appearance on the TODAY Show. Since then, the singer has released two new songs “Love So Soft” and “Move You,” as well as a music video for the former. The pair of tunes are the first to be released off her upcoming album “Meaning of Life” available Oct. 27 and now available for pre-order on iTunes and Apple Music.

Jazzy crooner Haley Reinhart also released her third album “What’s That Sound?” this month, which is now available on iTunes and Apple Music. The singer also debuted a music video for her latest single of the record called “Let’s Start.” Season 15’s resident punk rocker, Dalton Rapattoni, also kickstarted his music career with his debut album entitled “Nobody’s Home,” which is also available on iTunes and Apple Music.

Last month, we also told you that Season 11 alum Joshua Ledet had released a self-titled EP. What we didn’t tell you is that it includes a hard-rocking duet to Aerosmith’s “Dream On” with another Idol alum: Season 15’s runner-up La’Porsha Renae. Check out the EP on Spotify.

Season 14 winner Nick Fradiani also debuted his new single “I’ll Wait For You” this month and announced his new EP “Where We Left Off” which is available for pre-order now.

Season 5’s soulful winner Taylor Hicks also announced his new single “Six Strings and Diamond Rings,” which is out Sept. 29.

And for those looking for a little Idol throwback, Season 1’s Tamyra Gray, Season 4’s Anthony Fedorov, and Season 7’s David Hernandez recorded a heartfelt version of the American National Anthem together this past month.

With the holiday season upon us, several Idol’s are going out on a festive Christmas-themed tour, including Season 8 winner Kris Allen (dates here), who is also playing a show with his buddy Matt Giraud in Kalamazoo, Michigan next month, and Season 11 alum Jessica Sanchez and Jeremy Rosado. You can check out the dates here.

Country superstar Carrie Underwood has also been keeping busy between returning to Sunday Night Football with her iconic them song, snagging a CMA nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year, and popping in to the Grand Ole Opry for a suprise duet with the iconic Reba McIntyre. There’s plenty to see and do if you’re a Carrie fan!

Other country Idols have been busy as well, with Scotty McCreery opening for the legendary Garth Brooks and Lauren Alaina earning a CMA nomination of her own for New Artist of the Year.

Season 14’s Clark Beckham has been keeping busy as well. The singer is back on the road touring with rapper Jon Bellion. Beckham also teased new music on his Twitter slated for Oct. 6. The release would be his first original music since his stint on the show, so fans are excited to hear what he has in store for them.

This past week Season 13 of NBC’s The Voice also premiered with Idol alum Jennifer Hudson taking her seat as a coach and judge on the hit show for a first time. We’re all excited to see what singers she’ll choose and how they’ll fair on the cut-throat singing competition.

Other News

Now that Idol‘s first round of auditions have ended, the lofty task of finalizing who will join Katy Perry on the judging panel looms. The show is set to return in March of 2018, likely on Sunday and Monday nights, but before that, the celebrity judge auditions and semi-final rounds have to take place. Currently, what we know is that ex-Idol judge Keith Urban has denied rumors, that he might return to the show, but it’s not all bad news for country fans as singer Luke Bryan is rumoured to be close to finalizing his spot on the panel. We can’t wait to see what the country icon might bring to the table.

That’s all the Idol news we have for you this month. Is there any new Idol music you’re digging or any plans to go to a show? And what do you think about Luke Bryan joining the judging panel? Let us know in the comments below.
