Later, Lauer

This month, The Today Show started off on a very serious note as anchor Savannah Guthrie and fellow Today host Hoda Kotb delivered startling news to viewers. Guthrie and Kotb discussed NBC News’ decision to fire now-former Today anchor, Matt Lauer, after accusations of sexual misconduct surfaced earlier that week. A woman came forward citing “egregious acts of sexual harassment and misconduct” by Lauer, which caused the major news organization to let Lauer go after nearly 20 years of employment. NBC News’ chairman, Andrew Lack, released a statement to the entire organization saying, the reports and subsequent investigation “represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company’s standards.” Lauer has not yet commented on the story, and NBC has not anncouned any replacement for his spot on Today.

The Grammy Noms Are In

Many artists awoke to exciting news this month when the 60th annual Grammy Award nominations were announced on CBS. This year is being celebrated as one of the first truly racially inclusive list of nominees. Childish Gambino’s “Redbone,” “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Bieber, “24k Magic” by Bruno Mars, “The Story of O.J.” by Jay-Z, and “HUMBLE.” by Kendrick Lamar were all nominated for Record of The Year. Other notable nominees include Khalid and Alessia Cara for Best New Artist, Kesha’s “Praying” for Best Pop Solo Performance, and Taylor Swift for “Better Man” in the Best Country Song category. Meanwhile, fans were not so pleased to see artists such as Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and Harry Styles nixed from the list after their various and successful albums released during the eligibility time frame for the 2018 show. Whether you’re looking forward to seeing your favorite win, or watching your favorite perform, congratulations to the nominees! We’ll see you next year.

He Liked It, So….

He put a ring on it! That’s right, this month it was announced that Prince Harry of Windsor proposed to his American girlfriend, and actress, Meghan Markle, and the two are set to wed in the spring of 2018. The couple have been together for little more than a year, with the actress leaving her Suits role behind in order to begin her life as what many suspect will be the Duchess of Sussex, although that has yet to be confirmed. One thing is certain, millions will be tuning in to see the younger of the royals wed his American sweetheart early next year. Congrats to the happy couple!

A Farewell To Cassidy

Sadly, it was revealed in November that actor and musician, David Cassidy, passed away at the age of 67. Cassidy, who came to fame early in life as Keith Partridge on the hit TV show The Partridge Family, had been hospitalized for organ failure in a Florida hospital. His publicist confirmed the news in a statement saying, “On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy. David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.” RIP David, and our condolences to his entire family at this time.
