It’s hard to believe 2018 is already halfway over. As the summer rolls on, everyone is busy making big plans for the beach and World Cup watch parties. But in Hollywood, they’re busy making big headlines.

A Farewell To Remember
This month was certainly filled with surprises, both good and bad. Unfortunately for the world, the bad included the loss of a few bright stars. Designer and founder of her namesake line, Kate Spade, was found dead in her Manhattan apartment due to an apparent suicide. Kate Spade is a name many recognize from her hit collection of purses, shoes, accessories, and more. Mixing the classic with the quirky, Spade made an impact in the world of fashion. Although she had sold her brand in 2007, which was then sold again to Tapestry, Inc. (the parent company of Coach) in 2017, her name is synonymous with a bright and vibrant brand that continues to live on.

Within a week of Spade’s unexpected death, Parts Unknown star, chef, best-selling author, and all-around travel-enthusiast, Anthony Bourdain was found dead while shooting the hit CNN show in Paris, also due to an apparent suicide. Bourdan was a New York City-born and New Jersey-raised character, who worked his was through restaurants, and ultimately graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1978. Bourdain has written a few books on the culinary industry, although he didn’t become a household name until beginning his career in television, starting with a show called No Reservations, and finally, Parts Unknown. Bourdain traveled the world, taking cameras with him, to explore the unseen, the dirty, and the unexpected.
Finally, it was also announced this month that the Jackson 5 patriarch, Joe Jackson, passed away in a Las Vegas hospital at the age of 89. Jackson was the mind that helped propel his children into stardom with the Jackson 5, which ultimately brought us the King of Pop, Michael, and his sister, Janet, among others. While no immediate cause of death has been announced, it has been speculated that Jackson was ill for quite sometime leading up to his passing. May Joe, Kate, and Anthony all rest in peace.

No Tears Left to Cry
On a much brighter note, this month marked the announcement of Ariana Grande’s engagement to Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson. Grande, 25, is known for her stellar vocals and hit songs such as “Side to Side,” “The Way” and “Dangerous Woman.” The pair only began publicly dating in late May after her split from rapper Mac Miller, and Davidson’s split from ex Cazzie David. The duo made their relationship Instagram official in April, and sparked rumors of an engagement in early June. Davidson confirmed the rumors during a visit to Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show. The 2018 MTV Movie Movie & TV Awards
June also brought along another beloved awards show, the MTV Movie & TV Awards. This year’s big winners were Black Panther (for Best Movie), Stranger Things (for Best Show), and their respective stars, Chadwick Boseman and Millie Bobby Brown, who both won for Best Performances in their categories. One of the most-talked-about moments of the night was Chris Pratt’s acceptance speech for the Generation Award. Pratt encouraged kids to be kind, pray, and don’t be a turd. Congratulations to the night’s winners!
