Moon Landing

This month, one of the most controversial awards shows descended upon us with the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards. The show was jam packed with celebrities at every turn, and hot performances to boot! This year, Jennifer Lopez accepted the 2018 Video Vanguard Award and delivered a killer performance along with it. Lopez performed a medley of her hits, from jams like “On The Floor”, “Let’s Get Loud”, and “Jenny From The Block.”

The night also saw moonpersons (the re-branded name MTV gave its signature statue to support gender equality) handed to Ariana Grande, Hayley Kiyoko, and Childish Gambino. The night’s top honor, Video of The Year, went to none other than Miami-native Camila Cabello. And one of the most-discussed moments from the night was Madonna delivering a seemingly self-involved speech to honor the late Aretha Franklin.

And speaking of Aretha, the legendary songstress sadly passed away this month after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Franklin was the Queen of Soul, and topped the charts beginning in the 1960s. While she had been suffering from cancer, she had not made it known to the public.

In a statement to the public, Franklin’s family said, “We have been deeply touched by the incredible outpouring of love and support we have received from close friends, supporters and fans all around the world. Thank you for your compassion and prayers. We have felt your love for Aretha and it brings us comfort to know that her legacy will live on. As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.” Franklin was 76, may she rest in peace.

Here Comes the Bride

After speculation and story after story attempting to unearth the details of the surprise engagement between Quantico star Priyanka Chopra, and Grammy-nominated artist, Nick Jonas, the pair made it official. Instagram official. The duo jetted off to Mumbai earlier this month to celebrate their engagement  in a traditional Indian ceremony, and documented it on their respective social media accounts. In the images, Jonas and Chopra can be seen wearing traditional Indian clothing while celebrating their love with their families.

The pair have taken the internet by storm, and despite their decade-long age difference (Jonas is 25, Chopra is 36), both celebs and fans alike have been avidly supporting and celebrating the happy couple. Congratulations!

And Baby Makes Four

In an unexpected moment this month, Grammy-winning singer Carrie Underwood announced she and hockey husband Mike Fisher are expecting a new bundle of joy. The Cry Pretty singer posted a video to her various social media accounts announcing her new album and subsequent tour, which isn’t set to begin until next year.

The reason for the postponement is due to the new baby she and the former Nashville Predators player are expecting! This makes baby number two for the couple, who share a three-year-old son, Isaiah. Congratulations to the growing family!
