The dog days of summer are here and with school back in session, you’re surely going to need something to look forward to, whether its new music, a concert or a new season of Idol, we’ve got you covered with all the latest Idol news from this past month that will make your day fly by…
New Music
Carrie Underwood may have a second baby on the way, but it isn’t slowing her down. Her new album “Cry Pretty” comes out Sept. 14, but the singer has already announced the tracklisting, teased a few of the tracks and scheduled a spring tour. How exciting!
Season 15 winner Trent Harmon has been busy, recording and released several tracks from his debut album You Got ‘Em All as acoustic versions. The videos, which have been posted on his YouTube channel, highlight the singer’s impeccable vocal range and control in what Harmon has labelled the “Ivy Hall Sessions.”
Also from Season 15, MacKenzie Bourg dropped a new single entitled “Playlove” which the singer describes as a catchy “bop” compared to some of the ballads he’s released since his run on the show.
Season 14 alum Daniel Seavey and his band, Why Don’t We, announced their album 8 Letters will be out August 31st, which features their singles “Talk” and “Hooked,” as well as the title track, which is a softer piano ballad.

Season 13 winner Caleb Johnson will be busy in the coming months performing in “BAT.” In it, he’ll be singing songs by legendary rocker Meat Loaf and performing with his band. Tour dates are set for September and October, after which time Johnson will be touring with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra for their East Coast Data.
Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips gave fans a treat when he dropped the music video for his singer “Magnetic” this past month. Phillips is also currently out on tour with Gavin Degraw until Sept. 8.
Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery announced his tour supporting his new album, Seasons Change, this past month. The tour starts in Dallas, Texas on Nov. 29, but the singer has a whole slew of other shows scheduled from September through to January so check out his website!
Also from Season 10, fourth place rocker James Durbin announced his fourth studio album Homeland, which fans can order on PledgeMusic and receive some pretty cool bonuses in the process.
Season 8’s Allison Iraheta joined popstar Ariana Grande on Good Morning America to perform her single “God is a Woman” this past month. You can also check out Iraheta’s own music with her band, Halo Circus, who just released their album Robots and Wranglers recently.

With American Idol‘s next season on the horizon, the last season’s alum are basking in the dog days of their own Idol season. Winner Maddie Poppe, along with runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchison and 7th place contestant Catie Turner kicked off the Idol audition bus tour in Orlando this past month. Auditions are scheduled until September 15th, where they’ll conclude in Charleston, West Virginia.
This past month, Broadway performers got together to pay tribute to Alanis Morissette and her iconic songs. Season 7’s David Cook, along with Season 3’s Diana DeGarmo and Season 5’s Ace Young, each performed a cover of one of her songs. You can check out the videos here. Season 7’s David Archuleta also celebrated 10 years since his debut single “Crush” came out by posting an acoustic version of the track on his Twitter.
Idol‘s most infamous ex-judge, Simon Cowell, was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this past month and plenty of Idol alum showed up to celebrate including Season 8’s Adam Lambert, Season 5’s Katharine McPhee, and the one-and-only Kelly Clarkson, who delivered Simon’s introduction.
Clarkson is also bracing for Season 15 of NBC’s The Voice, which will feature fellow Idol alum Jennifer Hudson. The Voice‘s official Twitter account released a funny video of the pair’s antics during the auditions. Clarkson is also in the process of pitching the pilot for her talk show to NBC, which sounds like a riot! Hudson is also scheduled to perform at the funeral of music legend Aretha Franklin on Aug. 31. Franklin was adamant that Hudson play her in an upcoming biopic, so her tribute will surely be touching.
