UK band, Coldplay performed an 11-song setlist before hundreds of fans on the historic stage of the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas last night (the same stage as the beloved PBS series, Austin City Limits). The quintet played a few of their old favorites, as well as debut some new tunes from their forthcoming sixth studio album, “Ghost Stories”—slated for a May 19 release. The band hasn’t released any new music in the last two years and lead singer Chris Martin knows it, telling the audience, “We’ve been away a long time and I can’t think of a better place to come back into the world.”
Album Review: Tim Halperin’s “Heart Tells Your Head”
If you like piano-driven alternative-pop with lyrics that tell a story, you need to listen to Tim Halperin. After getting his big start as a Top 24 semifinalist on Season 10 of American Idol, Tim has been constantly on-the-go with his career, making great music as frequently as I struggle to wake up and get […]
Album Review: Elise Testone’s “In This Life”
As a contestant on Season 11 of American Idol, Elise Testone covered artists like Adele, Al Green, Stevie Nicks, Billy Joel, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and Jimi Hendrix (her final performance of “Bold as Love” is highly underrated – I urge you to take a listen), and a mix of those eclectic sounds are interwoven all […]
Album Reviews: The Music of Megan Joy and Matt Giraud
Megan Joy and Matt Giraud were two of the stars of American Idol Season 8, one of the most talented and dynamic casts in the show’s history. With their jazzy, soulful voices and charming personalities, they were easily among my favourite contestants in the competition. Now, as independent singer-songwriters, both Megan and Matt have released […]
Canadian Electronic Music: Artists to Look Forward to in 2014
For the past decade, the popularity of electronic dance music has been on the rise in North America. The continual running of big electronic music festivals in dozens of locations across the US and Canada help attribute to this ever popular genre. Big festivals such as Ultra (Miami), Electric Daisy Carnival (Las Vegas, New York), […]
Top 10 Albums of 2013
I realize all the major outlets have the same albums hanging around towards the front of their lists (which raises a slew of other questions) but nonetheless, these are my personal favorite albums released this year.
Pop Punk Needs The Story So Far
In a genre rarely taken seriously, a young band from Walnut Creek, Calif. has the potential to change that.
The Killers Give A “Shot At The Night”, Targeting Fans With “Direct Hits”
This time last year, the Las Vegas rock band The Killers released their fourth studio album entitled Battle Born. The album received much acclaim from critics and fans, and was voted by readers as the second best album of 2012 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s year-end countdown. Today The Killers mark their return with a brand new […]
This is Us: A New Fan Watches 1D3D
First things first: I am a Directioner. Or am I a Directionator? Maybe I have One Direction infection?
Idol Winner, DeWyze, Re- “Frames” Himself.
I talked a lot about the “white guy with guitar” streak during my Idol series this past season and how the producers were determined to break it – an effort I can understand after five male winners in a row, but with the success of Phillip Phillips and David Cook, there’s an obvious underlining message […]
Backstreet’s Back, All Right!: Celebrating 20 Years of BSB
Boy band mania has dawned upon the world once again. Though modern groups like One Direction have captivated a new generation of frenzied fans, it’s arguably more exciting to see groups of yesteryear reunite to fulfill those nostalgic for the hottest male talents of the good old days. The Package Tour, for a recent example, […]
Why Vinyl?
If you’re a person who doesn’t know why they like music and are content with it just being there, this isn’t for you. However, I can relate to those folks at times. But the core of why I love music is rather complex. Vinyl is just a small, yet important, piece of the puzzle. Here’s […]
Baby You A Song: The Songs You’ll Be Hearing for Summer 2013
Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer, which means cookouts, pool openings, and rising temperatures. It also begs the question: what will be the Song of the Summer? Every year has that earworm you can’t shake, and whether it’s 2011’s “Sexy & I Know It” or “I Gotta Feeling” from 2009, it seems […]
