The 2015 VMAs: Everything You Need to Know

The MTV Video Music Awards always leave us speechless. Last night’s show was no different. It had everything from a crying Justin Bieber to a dancing Kanye West. So for those of you who got at least 8 hours of sleep last night, here’s everything you need to know about the 2015 MTV VMAs.

Best Moments:

Nicki & Taylor: There’s no bad blood here! Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift quieted anyone questioning their friendship when Swift joined Minaj onstage briefly to perform their hit singles “Bad Blood” and “The Night is Still Young”. It was one of the most memorable moments of the night.

Kanye…Dancing: You heard it here, people! Kanye West was smiling and dancing along The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” and the internet loves it! Kanye West at award shows is officially a wonderful thing.

Tori Kelly Slays: Tori Kelly is quickly becoming the queen of live award show performances. After wooing us all at the Billboard Awards earlier this year, Kelly did it again with an outstanding performance of her new single “Shoulda Been Us” and brought the house down.

Kanye and Taylor Reminisce: This was by far the best moment of the evening. Kanye West received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award, which was presented to him by none other than Taylor Swift. Swift and West had an infamous encounter at the award show six years ago. But time has passed and let bygones be bygones! The two exchanged a sweet and friendly moment on stage, and it was glorious.

Worst Moments:

Nicki and Miley: When Nicki Minaj took the stage to accept her moonman for Best Hip Hop Video, she also took a moment to defend herself again this year’s host, Miley Cyrus. In a recent interview, Cyrus made a negative statement about Minaj’s reaction to not receiving a Video of the Year nomination for her video “Anaconda”, saying she overreacted. Minaj made no mistake in defending herself. It then spiraled into a back-and-forth between the two stars, which left us all a little uncomfortable and sad. Can’t we all just get along?

Even Bieber Cries: Call us insensitive, but Justin Bieber crying was…awkward. Knowing it was his first award show performance since his legal issues, it’s understandable that he was a bit emotional. After all, he did have killer live vocals (that’s right, we said LIVE!) and fantastic dance moves. It’s safe to say the Biebs is back! But his tears at the end of his performance were a bit cringe-worthy. Sorry, Beliebers!

Honorable Mention:

Kanye’s acceptance speech: Um…what? That speech went in all kinds of directions. West took the stage to accept his Video Vanguard award from Taylor Swift, and it went a little askew. Not only did West kind-of-maybe-not apologize to Swift, he also criticized the music industry for not standing up for artists and true artistry. And he ended it only how Kanye West can; By announcing he’s running for President in 2020 and dropping the mic. Yeezus out.
