Fall is here and with it comes a whole host of fall-themed food and drinks for people to enjoy. But while pumpkin spice remains the king of fall trends, with Halloween approaching as the weather gets cooler, there’s another fall favorite that can’t be forgotten.

That’s right, we’re talking about candy corn.

Candy corn is a classic fall treat and while the traditional candy nuggets seem to have as many haters as fans no one can deny they are as much a part of the season as changing leaves and lattes. And just like pumpkin spice everything, candy corn is popping up in new and creative forms all the time, including new limited-edition Hostess Candy Corn Cupcakes.

While Hostess has released white cake Candy Corn Cupcakes in the past, this year’s version is a yellow cake with an orange-colored filling and bright yellow frosting with orange and white sprinkles to complete the candy corn look. However, candy corn fans hoping to make their baked good dreams come true with the perfect candy cupcake will be disappointed.

Instagram user Junkbanter picked up a box of the special treats at Walmart and had to report that, unlike other special flavor Hostess offerings (peanut butter and chocolate Twinkies, anyone?) the candy corn cupcakes taste nothing like candy corn.

And we can confirm that while the cupcakes do not taste like the seasonal candy that inspired them they are still tasty, yellow cake cupcakes which makes them an excellent option for those times when you really want a fall-themed cupcake but just don’t want to bake for yourself.

However, if you do want to whip up something in the kitchen for yourself there are a lot of fun, candy corn-themed recipes out there, including this simple no-bake Candy Corn Bark. And if candy corn isn’t your thing at all but a no bake treat still sounds like fun don’t worry, you can use the same recipe to make a variety of candy barks.

Happy fall snacking!
