In recent years, food trends have helped to bring in some of our favorite mythical fantasies to life. But one very pretty and vibrantly creative café is taking the cake — literally, with its exotic, mermaid setting that gives you a tail to wear while you eat.
For the foodie who loves to travel, enter Southeast Asia’s unique and charming café, Mermaid Island Café in Bangkok, Thailand that lets guests live out their true aquatic destiny. Treading those dreams most of us have of eventually becoming Ariel from Disney’s The Little Mermaid, the café serves up a dreamy mermaid-inspired dessert shop and department store, offering a wide range of services, including makeovers, tea parties, shopping goods and so much more.
The candy colored premises, just north of Bangkok, are bright blue and pink and you can bet have guests coming by the dozen for Instagram appeal. But if the ocean-themed setting wasn’t enough for you, its vibrant menu of food is equally photogenic and adorable.
Serving rainbow waffles, ombré drinks and mermaid tail cupcakes that will be the envy of every little girl’s party, there’s nothing that doesn’t scream mermaid mythology quite like this wondrous café. One of the Castle Café’s most popular items on its mermaid themed menu is the Mermaid Sundae, a pastel concoction topped with frothy whipped cream and a beautiful mermaid’s tail.
Originally opened as a café in 2016 by local entrepreneur, Yuri Kuliga, the Castle Café has been taking off in a big way ever since and expanded their treasure trove of items from its single-storey offerings from the Mermaid Island Café with an upgrade into a larger facility in the heart of the city that includes food, shopping and mermaid-goodness into a 4-storey castle.
While you’re done dining at the café, which is found on the fourth floor, some of the items customers can find on the remaining levels are clothes, accessories, home décor items and mermaid merchandise that includes owning a mermaid tail.
While it does welcome a pretty young demographic, people seem to really enjoy being a part of its world as the castle café has an average rating of nearly five stars on its Facebook page.
Since the start of 2017, we have been hearing about unicorns, dragons, mermaids and everything in between that is sparkly and glittery, but have we reached a peak with mythical creatures? We will have to wait and see if the dodo bird catches on in any way…
